The Best Vegan Sugar Cookies {traditional ingredient recipe too}

I’m really excited to share with you all my Best Vegan Sugar Cookies!

The Best Vegan Sugar Cookies
{Makes 52 medium sized cookies}

If you want to make these non-vegan, just substitute traditional ingredients, like dairy milk and real butter. I’ve made them both ways and they are fantastic either way!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of vegan butter
  • 1 1/2 cups of vegan sugar
  • 2 tbs. of soy milk {or your favorite nondairy milk… I’ve used coconut and almond before. This time I used water and that works too, but it’s best with vegan milk}
  • 2 egg substitutes
  • 1 tbs. of vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. of baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour {if you want them to be stronger for delicate cookie cutters you can add up to an extra 1/2 cup}

Directions:

  1. Add all wet ingredients into a bowl and mix really well.
  2. Add all the dry ingredients to the wet and mix until its all combined. Don’t over mix.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and use a cookie cutter or roll into balls.
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees or until just starting to get a little brown in color. As soon as they look like they are turning brown take them out and let them cool on a rack.

The frosting really makes the cookies that much better! It reminds me of the frosting that you find on soft store bought sugar cookies… but without all the yucky stuff added! It’s our family favorite.

The Best Vegan Butter Cream Frosting
{Makes about 2 cups}

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups of vegan powdered sugar {give or take depending on the consistency you like your frosting}
  • 1 tsp. of vanilla
  • 5 tsp. of soy milk
  • 1/2 cup of vegan butter {softened to room temperate}

Directions:

  1. Add butter and vanilla to a bowl and mix till fluffy.
  2. Add 3 cups of sugar a cup at a time and continue mixing.
  3. Add soy milk and continue mixing.
  4. Add the rest of the sugar a 1/4 cup at a time and until you reach your preferred consistency while still mixing.
  5. Add food coloring if you like and mix a bit more.
