This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company. All opinions are 100% mine.
Nationwide provided me with information regarding the policies and coverage.
After our trip to Turks & Caicos we all caught the travel bug and we can’t wait to go on our next travel adventure!
We dream and research where we want to go and how we are going to get there. There is so much that goes into planning a vacation than just picking where to go… but all the planning pays off in the end! About a month before we left for Turks & Caicos I realized I hadn’t purchased travel insurance. It had been so long since we took a big vacation that I completely forgot how important it is to have.
When I finally sat down to buy travel insurance I was kind of at a loss with who to purchase it through. There were so many choices and none of them were names I knew. Nationwide recently began offering leisure travel insurance, and while I haven’t used it yet, next time I’m going to remember to purchase our Travel Insurance from Nationwide because they are well known in the insurance world.
We purchase travel insurance to protect our investment into the trip and also for practical reasons like being able to have certain expenses covered, such as medical care and emergency flights home if needed. It’s something I won’t travel without, especially when we go out of the country.
Nationwide Travel insurance has many plans to offer, including policies to protect your leisure travel investments in a number of ways – whether one big trip a year (single trip plans) or many (annual multi-trip plans) and even 3 new specific plans just for cruises. If you are planning more than one trip this year I highly recommend looking into the annual multi-plan policies. Not only can you save money, but also you can save time plus have the security of knowing you are covered for a variety of common losses… and you only have to purchase the policy once a year.
For those taking just one trip a year, the single trip policies provide coverage for trip cancellation, trip interruption, lost luggage and more for that one big trip. Having lost most of my luggage years ago I cannot tell you how great it would be to have this coverage!
Annual/Multi-Trip plans are available for frequent travelers that prefer coverage for all of the trips they take in a year. We are looking into a multi-trip policy this year since we have a few trips already booked with more being planned.
What I am most excited about is that Nationwide is expanding their product portfolio to include leisure travel as something important to protect with a new cruise protection plan. They are also one of the only larger personal lines / auto insurers to offer this product.
As we flew over the Bahamas to Turks & Caicos we all knew our next big trip was going to be a cruise to as many islands as possible. Knowing that I can get Cruise Insurance from Nationwide now makes this an even more carefree vacation. I can’t wait to get back to these white sandy beaches!
There are many reasons to get cruise insurance but these are the most important ones to me:
1. Emergencies happen back at home and on your vacation. Being able to return home early is a big deal. If eligibility requirements are met, you can be reimbursed transportation costs, up to $1000 per person to return home, if you elect to abandon your cruise and return home early with the Interruption For Any Reason- Return Transport benefit.
2. I’m a germ and illness worrier. If there was a CDC warning issued about a port of call we were visiting I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the vacation because I would be worried the whole time. Having the ability to have up to 100% of non-refundable trip costs covered if you cancel your cruise because a CDC warning is issued for a port of call on your itinerary is available on the most comprehensive cruise plan as long as you cancel at least two days before departure.
3. Weather and other issues come up all the time and can cause a port change. Sometimes you book a specific cruise for a specific port so having port of call change benefits are awesome. Itinerary Change coverage provides a one-time benefit of up to $1250 per person, for the inconvenience of an itinerary change by the cruise line prior to departure (although you must still go on the cruise for this benefit).
A couple things to remember: Travel insurance plans from Nationwide are only available to U.S. residents. Nationwide’s single-trip policies, including the cruise insurance plans, are available in all 50 states and D.C. The annual/multi-trip plans, however, are not available in FL, NH, NY, OR and WA. Not all plan benefits are available in all states. Specific benefit amounts vary by plan and certain restrictions may apply; please check the plan coverage details before purchasing.
It’s important to get your travel insurance from a very well known company so be sure to get a quote for your next trip from Nationwide!
This makes perfect sense. I can’t believe I’ve never thought to get travel insurance before our trips or cruises.
We travel a lot, and I’ve never once considered travel insurance. It just never crossed my mind. Thanks so much for this!
This is so important. We buy travel insurance whenever we take a trip. You never know what could happen!
SO TRUE! I never thought of it before… but insurance covers everything. I wish companies were just more flexible in their policies, however.
This is really great information. I will make sure I look into this before my next vacation. I would rather be safe than sorry.
We travel to the National Parks a lot – but even there I am thinking insurance is great planning! Thank you for the reminder
I will never be going without travel insurance ever again. It is so scary to think of what could happen.
We are looking at taking a cruise soon, and travel insurance will be a must for us to buy. Never bought it before though!
Thanks for this great post! Travel Insurance is one of the most important things you can do before a big trip… Your pictures are amazing as well!
I’ve never even thought of travel insurance before. It makes total sense, though. There are so many variables that you just can’t plan for.
This is such a great idea. I’ve gone on many vacations, but I’ve never used travel insurance. Until a few months ago, I didn’t even know it existed.
I hadn’t even put that on my checklist. We should get travel insurance for our next trip.
Holy heck YES it is so important to get insurance when travelling! I’ve been on countless flights that ended up getting cancelled due to weather, and it’s saved us SO much heartache having the insurance.
You need insurance for weather cancellations!? I’m learning so much about travel!
I would never travel without insurance! You never know what will happen and don’t want to be anxious about something NOT happening the whole time.
Travel insurance is a great idea for expensive trips! I am always nervous that something will go wrong and we will lose money.
I’ve never purchased travel insurance. It may be something I need to look into on our next big family vacation.
I think travel insurance is worth it. You never know if something will happen and it’s better to be protected for the what ifs.
We don’t have any big trips planned for a few years, but next time we do I’ll keep this in mind.
I’ve never gotten travel insurance, but I’ve never really thought about WHY I need it. It’s smart because you never know when you’ll need it.
I had no idea how specific travel insurance was! Thank you for this information!
Thankfully, we’ve never had to cancel any travel due to any of those circumstances. I know it’s just luck though. It’s a great idea to have the insurance juuuuust in case.
Those are very good reasons that I probably wouldn’t have even thought about until my mom recently had a stroke. We purchased travel insurance for her in case she needed to come back earlier from her winter haven in Cancun.
I have never been on a cruise. This sounds like a good thing to have though.
My husband and I went on our first cruise last month. We are going on another one in December, insurance sounds like a great idea!
I didn’t even realize that they had travel insurance! Thanks so much for informing me!
We drive when we want to take vacation currently, but once the kids get older I know we will fly A LOT! Nationwide looks pretty awesome. If we ever go out of the country I will for sure get this no matter what.
Having the insurance would make it more of a carefree trip. Always best to be covered for the big things if you can be!
I’ve only been on one MAJOR vacation and that was when I was 12 so I really didn’t have much to worry about except what I was going to pack so I never realized there was something like travelers insurance and how important it was!
Have never considered travel insurance before. Will have to look in to it now!
We always have travel insurance its better to be safe than sorry.
I have never gotten travel insurance, but you have some great points! Thanks for the tips!
Really neat info. I did not know there was Multi trip coverage.
Great tips! We also get travel insurance whenever we fly abroad. 🙂
I travel with kids and my in laws so we really never know what might happen. I think travel insurance is a great idea.
I’ve actually never traveled with trip insurance, but I could see where it would be useful– especially for a cruise!
We have never traveled anywhere other than to visit family. In future if we do go on a vacation away or a cruise we will have to look into some travel insurance. I would rather not take a risk of not having any.
I haven’t used it but it’s a good idea to have it.
I had never thought of getting travel insurance before. Probably a good idea if you spent a lot of money on a trip.
Such good points and reminders. Clearly getting travelers insurance can save alot of stress.
Awesome tips! To be honest, I’ve never really thought about travel insurance. But you’re right – it’s so important!
I love Turks and Caicos. We are big travelers as well, but it has never occurred to me to get travel insurance.
we have gone on a trip and had insurance and it was so worth it since we needed to use it. it was a life saver.
I think it is very important to have insurance too! I love the photos! Traveling is something I want to do much more of with my family.
How exciting! I almost went to Turks & Caicos last spring for a belated honeymoon, but decided to go to the Bahamas instead. I still want to visit Turks & Caicos someday, though!
I’ve heard of some vacations disasters on the news before but I always think “It will never happen to me.” These are some very good reasons to get insurance that I wouldn’t have considered. Thanks!
Such good advice, we’ve never bought travel insurance before!
I always purchase travel insurance when I travel. I would rather be over protected then end up not having enough.
Travel insurance is always at the top of my list when I travel. I do not want an unexpected surprises so I a;ways make sure that I have coverage in case anything happens.
it’s such a small expense that can really pay off. Sometimes it’s frustrating to write the check and think that it’s basically wasted, but the consequences of not doing it are hard to think of.
Oh cool! I hadn’t realized that travel insurance will cover if you cancel due to a CDC warning. I have never really looked that far into things but it’s a great plus. I always buy it simply for emergencies.
This is a very interesting and informative post. Thank you for sharing it. I never really considered travel insurance because the credit card I use to pay for our trip has free travel insurance attached to it and I have actually used it in the past when we had one lost luggage. But it’s good to know what you shared!
