This happens to me all the time.
The phone will ring and it will be guests coming over with 10 minutes notice. I used to really stress over these moments, but not anymore. I’ve got an action plan now. In 10 minutes I can have the house guest ready with these tips.
1. Have the right tools. Keep a cleaning bucket in an easy to reach area so you can grab it and get to work. Same goes for your vacuum. Since time is of the essence I use a Hoover Air Cordless Vacuum. No cord means you have freedom to move about your home with ease; no plugging and unplugging, no winding and rewinding and most importantly, no tripping, tugging or tangling. This saves me precious time. It also has multiple products with an interchangeable battery, which provide versatility to tackle a variety of messes with just the right tool for the job, whether it’s the whole house or picking up a quick mess. Thankfully it’s normally little messes here and there that I’m picking up before guests get here.
2. Pick up, put away and throw away. Grab all the clutter and sort. Throw away what needs to be in the trash, put away what needs to be put back and straighten up the rest.
3. Start high and work your way down. I dust and clean kitchen counters and I don’t worry too much about getting the ground dirty. Since time is of the essence do the best you can.
4. Open the windows. Even if just for a couple moments. Fresh air does wonders.
5. Vacuum your floors. Start farthest from the front door and work your way towards it.
I am so impressed with our new AIR™ CORDLESS SERIES 3.0 UPRIGHT VACUUM.
It’s a full size, cordless vacuum that can clean your whole home. We’ve been using it for small spills and the twice daily cat hair clean up… and also for deep cleaning. It’s awesome.
Hoover has a line of 4 cordless cleaners—3 vacuums and a hard floor wet cleaner to choose from. They all have the power and performance you expect from Hoover. The cordless line is powered by an interchangeable battery system that works with all products in the Hoover cordless line products. We keep one in the vacuum and then charge the other so that we are never without power! The LithiumLife batteries have double the capacity of their standard 18-volt lithium Ion batteries which means longer runtime and fade-free power. Plus the Windtunnel 3 technology provides performance and suction power to lift and remove dirt.
What tips do you use for cleaning up when guests come over?
I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
That sounds like a great vacuum! I don’t let people come over my house without at least 24 hours notice and will never let anyone who stops by unannounced in 🙂
My main tip is to clear the clutter and light some candles. Also make sure the bathroom is stocked with essentials.
I need a great vacuum with the amount of dog hair I have in my house. This looks like it would stand up to the test!
Excellent article for sure – I like this topic and there is a complete need for covering the subject in my opinion.
I bookmarked this post for my personal use.
I like the idea of a cordless vacuum!
I have seen so many great reviews for this vacuum! I have been wanting a cordless one.
This is MY kind of cleaning guide. Some things I hadn’t thought of in your guide! Like start high.
I always have the mad 10 minute clean – I really need to try and remember these tips. x
if it was me, i would just throw everything in drawers and make sure that no one goes into my bedroom 😀
So I am not the only once who does a rush clean 10 minutes before company comes?! PHEW! LOL This looks like a great vacuum to help do a speed clean.
I do my best and most cleaning the 10 minutes before someone shows up at my house! This is a great list of how to do it.
I’ve been thinking of buying one of these. I don’t have carpet but it should work well on my floors. With a cat and a dog, I do a lot of sweeping all day and especially when guests are coming.
Excellent cleaning guide. I believe if a person shows up unannounced to visit my family (with 2 toddlers, a dog, and cat) then they know the cyclone they are walking into. Which is why I tell people if they want to visit I need at least 24 hours notice.
Ah this is a good guide! I’ve run into this situation before. That cordless vac would seriously save a ton of time.
I have this vacuum and I love it to pieces. It’s such a great addition to my cleaning, I can’t believe I’ve gone so long without. Hoover is such a great company and make a superior product!
And hide everything in a closet! LOL really good tips, now when can you do my house??!
I never have guest and when i do they know i have 4 kids and my house will never be spotless. However when i do plan for guest to come over. Its like a week long cleaning spree. Lol
Thanks for the tips! The vacuum looks so reliable. It pays to have the right cleaning tools at home especially if you barely have time to clean the house!
I was thinking that we need to get a smaller vacuum. I get tired of lugging our giant one up and down stairs and this looks like a great one.
I always do a quick dusting of the baseboards and a once over with the vacuum!
It is amazing how much a quick vacuuming can improve the overall look of a room. When those fast cleaning moments strike I am extra grateful I have kids to help!
Great tips. I really love that the vacuum is cordless but not only that but it’s full size. That’s important. I own a cordless vac but it’s smaller and with my house, that doesn’t really work too well. I need the cordless free and power!
Those are awesome tips. 10 minutes involves all six members of our family!
I know the ten minute cleanup very well. These are great tips for getting it done.
This is a great quick cleaning guide. I hate the mad rush to get everything ready before company comes over.
These are all great tips, With that we can easily finished the work in just a minute. Thank you for sharing this.
This is a great list and is exactly how I roll especially during the holidays! I really could use a cordless vacuum though! We have a central vac which is great for cleaning, but I need something light and quick for quick pick ups!
I actually need a new vacuum and this looks like a great one!! I need to check it out!! Great post!!
A Cordless vacuum would be dreamy! I always make sure the pillows are nice on the couch, makes me feel more put together.
The guests will be here in 10 minutes… everyone’s worst nightmare. Thankfully with your tips you’ll have the floors clean before the door bell rings.
Sounds like a great product to have… I will definitely buy one!!
Sometimes, being prepared for guests just isn’t possible and last-minute cleanup is necessary!
We have one carpet in the house – in our huge living room. And, its a very dark gray. This means that if you look at the carpet wrong you’ll need to vacuum it immediately. Everything shows on a dark carpet – do not let the darkness fool you! My teens usually take turns with the vacuuming as one of their chores – but they are hard on vacuums and the thick carpet and constant requirements for vacuuming don’t help the state of my poor vacuum. It’s tired. I’m looking for something that can keep up without an extreme upper body workout and this Hoover sounds like exactly what I need!
I turn on the cinnamon and cloves Scentsy. Makes it feel instantly homey. 🙂
With three kids, dog, rabbit, and guinea pig I need a good vacuum cleaner. Mine is about to crash. I will look into this one.
What an awesome vacuum. It looks lightweight and easy to operate.
These are great tips! I work my way down, too, and then we do a quick vacuum. I love cordless vacs. This looks like a nice one!
These are great cleaning tips. Since having my son we have unexpected guests all the time. My goal when I get the call is to make the high traffic areas look as best I can (clean stove, counters, toilet and vacuum living room) and make the rest of the clutter disappear quickly. That vacuum is awesome though! I wish i had one!
Love your tips. That vacuum is so compact–it looks great!
Thank you for your quick and simple tips to have your home guest ready in a matter of minutes. There are a few that we already execute but I will be adding the others to my regimen. Hmm, I wonder if I could learn to “deep clean” my home in 20 minutes. Great post!
Honestly, with having a very small trailer I only have one tip. Throw everything in the bedroom, LOL. I wil have to try some of these before company.
I have to admit this grabbed my attention when I read cordless. This Hoover Air Cordless Vacuum is on my top five for Christmas gifts this year.
I love a quick clean up plan before guests arrive. A great vacuum is a must!
I need a new vacuum I so happy I came across your post
I tend to deep clean often but, using the vacuum to get things fresh is a good thing. This looks like it works great!
Great cleaning tips and this sounds like a very impressive vacuum cleaner! I definitely need a new vacuum cleaner!
I’m sure my mom would love this, we really need to buy a new vacuum and this would be nice.
Great tips! This time of year is always so busy and I feel like 50% off the time I’m cleaning!
When i know guests are coming I go straight for the bathroom to make sure that’s clean. The floors are definitely next
With two kids and a dog, we are all about the quick clean up at our house. The quicker, the better. Great list!
These are some really great cleaning tips! I need 10 minute cleaning tips all the time!
