It’s summertime!

This was the last week of school for our girls and we are so excited! There is going to be a lot of relaxing, outdoor fun and some awesome weekend getaways! We have some big trips planned for later this year, but we still want to take a few smaller vacations this summer because summer is a great time to get out and have a good time!

Even when it’s not summertime we still love to go on weekend getaways so I’ve perfected the planning of them. I’m sharing this guide with my tips for how to plan a weekend getaway.

1. Pick your date. Sit down with your calendar and plan out some time. We are aiming for at least one weekend vacation a month. If you have the flexibility to travel during the work week you can often find more availability then too, so consider a mid week “weekend” getaway!

2. Pick a location within a 4 hour drive. We’ve found that the best time to leave is in between the morning and evening rush hours. Plus a drive of more than 4 hours can become tiresome.

3. Leave early in the day so that you can get the most of your vacation and arrive at check in time. Don’t lose any of your vacation by arriving too late in the day.

4. Chose a location with something for everyone in your group. Pete and I love views and the girls love fun… and we all love food so those are our priorities for a good vacation.

5. Check for specials. Marriott.com has a great special right now called the CELEBRATE SUMMER EVENT. The Celebrate Summer Event is all about getting up to $100 in resort credits for each day you stay, to be used on site at one of the many restaurants, spas, etc available if you book your stay before September 7th, 2015 (9/15).

It’s basically like getting up to $100 bonus dollars to spend each day you stay – which means you get to worry less about your budget.

We love staying at Marriott’s because there is so much to do!

You can bring your family to the lazy rivers, golf on the PGA-level courses, and wear shorts into the lobby when you grab drinks. You can find yourself on a waterslide one hour and in a business meeting or elegant, 300-person wedding the next. Make s’mores at the nightly campfire at the JW in San Antonio, catch a concert at L.A. LIVE, or try the incredible sushi at the Marco Island Marriott.

Which U.S. Marriott Resort hotel you would most like to visit and why?
