I can’t believe that June is already halfway over.
The girls are all finished with school and this is the first month in a long time we are not going to travel anywhere. Instead we are having some summer fun close to home while we catch up on everyday life! While we are home we’ve made a list of places that we love here locally, that we don’t normally get to go to, and we are planning to visit each one this month!
At the top if our list was the Oceanside Harbor.
It’s a really short drive from our house and there is a lot to do there. You can rent paddle boats, go fishing from the pier (or on a commercial boat), go for a walk, relax at the beach, enjoy the animals and my favorite… go kayaking!
Early afternoon we headed down to the harbor, stopping first to pick up some snacks at CVS.
I knew that the girls and I would be doing a lot of walking so we would need some healthy fuel! Thankfully there is a CVS store on practically every few blocks and they make it easy to make healthier choices with their Gold Emblem Abound line of products!
Gold Emblem Abound was launched in June 2014 and this newer line offers customers a wide range of better-for-you snack and grocery items, such as Blueberry & Pomegranate Superfruit Snack Bars, Fruit & Nut Fiber Trail Mix, Organic Dried Cranberries, Heavenly Light Popcorn and Sea Salt Flavored Baked Rice Crisps. Each product is free of artificial flavors and preservatives and contains 0g trans fats. Additionally, the Gold Emblem Abound line includes products that are gluten free certified, sodium free, cholesterol free and contain sources of protein, fiber, omega-3s, probiotic cultures and potassium.
There are that are high in fiber and protein to gluten-free options, Gold Emblem Abound has something to fit everyone’s unique lifestyle. Each product is free from artificial preservatives and contains 0g trans-fat, so you can feel good about what you’re snacking on!
Even better, with 7,800 locations, you can conveniently grab Gold Emblem Abound and CVS/pharmacy Brand items at your neighborhoodCVS/pharmacy while you’re already there filling your prescriptions, picking up greeting cards or grabbing your favorite personal care items.
With snacks in hand we set off on our adventure.
We parked at the far end of the harbor, away from the beach area. There is always more parking there. We grabbed our snacks and loaded them into a backpack. The addition of a backpack has made traveling and adventures so much easier. We started our walk at the far end and walked all the way to the beach on the others side. There are benches sprinkled throughout the harbor so we stopped as we felt the need and snacked.
Aside from the relaxing waters and boat watching we also saw a bunch of different birds, fish, and sea lions. I think we could have all watched the sea lions for hours. They remind me so much of dogs with mermaid tails. <— I can’t believe I just admitted that! When they look at you there is so much depth there… just like dogs.
Oceanside Harbor makes a great afternoon or morning place to visit with kids.
If you are planning a visit to Oceanside Harbor during the summer get there early to get the best parking spaces. Especially on the weekend. There is overflow parking on the other side of the train track and I’ve always been able to find a spot somewhere but sometimes that means parking very far away. If they are having an event I’d delay my visit. Closer to the beach side there are restaurants for meals and a coffee shop that makes great iced tea. I drink mine unsweetened so the flavor of the tea is very important to me. Be sure to walk out onto the public dock to get even closer to the boaters and to see all the fishers and their catches.
Staycations are the best! In a setting like that, how could you not have a wonderful time?
What a beautiful, relaxing way to spend family time enjoying nature. I could lay all day there with a book and some good organic snacks too! 🙂
That place sounds lovely! I am definitely adding it to my list for the next time we are in So Cal!
I miss shopping at CVS. I wish they had one in my area. However the closest thing to one’s Walgreens. I have never tried those products before. I will be on the look out for them.
Our favorite close place to go is the zoo 🙂 These are great snack ideas too! I love all the pics you took.
That does sound like a really nice place for relaxing. It’s great that CVS has high quality snacks for days like those.
What a nice place to visit. We don’t get to travel too far during the Summer so we do a lot of visiting near our home.
I love visiting the water front here in TORONTO. It’s so gorgeous to just look out at the water, the small airport and the skyline is to die for!
I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE staycations. Especially after now we moved to California. I mean, what better way to explore your city!
We love doing staycations sometimes! Cheaper and can be a lot of fun! We are for the first time in long actually going out of town, but these snacks look like great ones to take with us!
This looks like SO much fun! WE love CVS snacks!
Sounds like a great place to relax. We just had a great relaxing evening at the beach tonight.
Dried fruit chips are one of our favorite snacks. This looks like a wonderful place to visit.
There are so many fun things to do in our own neighborhoods. Sometimes we forget about the beauty in our own backyards. I love going to the beach for the day.
I always like to be a tourist in my own town as there is always so many things even now to discover! What a great way to spend a family day and those snacks looks like something I would devour as they looks so healthy!
Love traveling in my own state. Road trips and staying close to home saves me money. In Florida we have tons of things to do which makes it easier for us.
Looks like a place I’d love to visit!
This is a place great to visit!! Looks very peaceful and really relaxing. I wanna go there one day with my family, Love your snacks too.
I love staycations. I live near the Blue Ridge Parkway and always so much to see and do. I recently attended a CVS Meet Up and was so impressed with their line of healthy snack options. The Figi Apple and Blueberry is my all time favorite mixed with almonds its just delightful. Thank you for sharing. I follow your adventures and love them all 🙂
We used to have a CVS near us and would pick up snacks all the time. We kind of miss going and wish they were closer.
Now this is a vacation that I can get with. Everything looks so calm and relaxing. I’m going to have to add this to my list.
That is so nice! I could stay there whole day. We have a lake here that is about half a mile from where we live. We go there from time to time.
that looks like so much fun. Summer is my favorite time of year because we get to go out and do fun family activities.
I love to do a staycation as I call it when we can. There are so many great places to explore in the DC area. Snacks are a must, it makes every adventure that much better for the kids.
I wish we had a CVS here those snacks look delicious and I think the same about sea lions lol
That is such a beautiful place to visit. Those snacks look really tasty too.
I have tried those organic chips before and love them. Definitely a good choice for snacking when going on a road trip with kids.
It looks like you had a wonderful time. I enjoy staycations because just the change of scenery makes a huge difference.
This looks like such a fun place to take the family for a visit. The sea lions are cracking me up. We love the snacks from CVS.
I have a local park near me that I love to take the kids to, they can run and play and scream. Thankfully there is always a lot of other kids doing the same thing so we don’t stand out much.
I definitely need to be more of a tourist in my own town except I think my expectations are too high and I don’t appreciate what little there is to do here!
I love your pictures. I’d like to see the seals in person. I never have seen them.
Staycations are always a lot of fun! Sometimes you never know what kinds of things there are to do around where you live until you explore!
I think my family would love the banana chips!
Believe me, I can’t believe June is almost over too! Thank you for sharing your fun day at Oceanside Harbor with us!
These look so yummy- and healthy too! Great snack option, especially for a half day out like that 🙂
We love going to Port Dalhousie in this area and the nearby beach. They’ve got one of those old carousels and still charge a nickel for a ride there. So neat and tons of fun for our little ones 🙂
What a lovely little staycation you were able to have. There is so much fun to be had even if you stay close to home. Love this!
No I wish there’s a CVS here so I can try those healthy products! The harbor seems like a nice place to spend the day.
Great snacks pick! I’ve never tried them but they look healthy.
The beach and harbors are always a fun place. So many things to learn off.
