Sometimes pictures are worth a thousand words. This is one of those times. I could write a whole book just on this one resort because we loved it THAT much! If you haven’t seen our other posts on featuring our travel partner, Grand Velas Los Cabos, be sure to hop on over and read those too.
After spending a wonderful four days at Grand Velas Los Cabos I have so much to share. From a truly impeccable resort to world-class cuisine and activities for children and teens, this really is the ultimate Mexican vacation.
Let’s start with the resort.
When you first arrive, you are immediately greeted with a cool towel and an ice-cold drink to enjoy while you complete the quick registration process.
Unlike most resorts, check-in is done in private while enjoying a beautiful view and a neck and back massage. Emmy loves resort arrivals and she said this was the best one ever!
This was the first look at the resort and as you can see, the whole resort is situated so that you always have a magnificent view of the ocean.
After we were checked in, our butler came to meet us. All guests are assigned a butler who arranges your meal reservations and takes care of your every need. He was available to us as needed and checked in on us throughout our stay.
After we were checked in, we were escorted down to enjoy lunch while our luggage was delivered to our room. After lunch, we were given a tour of the resort. The first impressions we had were about how impeccable the grounds were and how luxurious everything was in every way.
On our tour, we were shown the convention and meeting areas, and the spa. The spa was breathtaking! From the spa water journey to the treatment rooms, it was truly remarkable.
The Suites
Grand Velas Los Cabos is an all-suite hotel. For families like ours, the Ambassador Suites are a perfect choice. With connecting rooms and close proximity to all, we were thrilled with our accommodations. The girls’ room had two queen beds while ours had a king bed. Other than that they were exactly the same. We have a full video room tour here.
The rooms are spacious and have huge tubs, but maybe our favorite part was the balconies. Pete and I did all of our work out here and also enjoyed our morning coffee and an afternoon drink. While we are talking about drinks, be sure to have a pina colada and also the house hard apple cider. Both were our absolute favorites. Also, each restaurant has a signature drink so be sure to order one! Back to the rooms. The linens were soft and the beds felt like you were sleeping on a cloud. I can’t remember being so relaxed or so rejuvenated after a good nights sleep. We often kept the balcony slider open at night just to listen to the waves crashing on the beach.
Pure heaven right here. I loved the way the sunlight bounced off the chairs in the early morning.
After a relaxing day poolside and a lively dinner at one of the fine dining restaurants, soaking in the bathtub was just about the best thing ever! Even the bathrooms were absolutely perfect.
In addition to the Ambassador Suites, there are additional accommodations for those traveling without younger children. We toured these beautiful suites and especially enjoyed this balcony view! Can you imagine being in that spa looking out over Los Cabos and the ocean?
The Dining
I don’t think I can even put into words how amazing the dining is at Grand Velas. The food is top of the line, and what you would expect from a fine dining establishment. Suite service is also included and is a luxurious culinary delight.
From their website:
Enjoy pure sensory pleasure at our collection of casual and fine dining restaurants. Indulge in a multi-course tasting menu presented by our two Michelin star Head Chef Sidney Schutte. Explore global gourmet cuisine at Piaf (French), Lucca (Italian) and Frida (Mexican). Enjoy delicious Wagyu beef and fresh-caught seafood straight from the sea to your plate at Velas 10 and Cabrilla. Take in an al fresco breakfast, lunch or dinner at family-friendly Azul. We have redefined Cabo San Lucas dining.
Here is a sampling of the food we enjoyed:
Since we are vegetarian and vegan, we focused on all the fresh fruit and vegetables and were surprised and thrilled with the creativity that the chefs used to thrill our palates. At the same time, when Emmy wanted a simple spaghetti, she too was made completely happy.
Mid afternoon we opted to have suite service to enjoy a snack on our balcony so that we were able to take a later dinner just as the sun set. This was recommended to us by our butler and made for an amazing time.
Do drinks count as dining? They do when you are on vacation! While you are enjoying the beach and pools, there are servers just waiting to bring you a bucket full of ice-cold water, frothy tropical drinks, and full meals or snacks. Believe it or not, we never had a moment to enjoy a poolside snack. It was on our list to do but each time we made it down to the pool we were still full from the prior meal. We did see other guests taking full advantage of the ceviche bar and other delicacies.
The salads and sushi were more favorites.
One day Em ordered pasta with parmesan cheese. She was thrilled!
Each morning as the sun started to come up, we had fresh coffee delivered to our room with tall glasses of green choice. If you are a coffee connoisseur like we are, you will be thrilled to know that the coffee is fantastic. We have noticed that good coffee outside the US can be hit or miss and this was a big hit!
Speaking of coffee, this is the first Grand Velas to have a coffee bar. In addition to fresh snacks like salads and sandwiches, there was also a full espresso menu featuring Nespresso. I have to admit that the week after we got back home we bought a Nespresso maker and enough coffee to fill up a whole cabinet in our kitchen. Was it the amazing coffee or were we just trying to extend our Grand Velas vacation? You be the judge. Either way, we spent a lot of time at the coffee bar, enjoying the coffee and the view. This was also a favorite spot for the teens.
The Kid’s and Teen Clubs
The teens loved the coffee bar, but the real favorite spot for them was the teen club. There was everything from TV’s, video game lounges, pool tables, and dance floor, snack and drink bar and more. It had everything a teen could possibly want and was staffed by teen experts who’s only goal was the enjoyment and safety of the teens.
Of course, Emmy was most thrilled with the kid’s club.
This was the most fantastic club with age-appropriate fun for kids of all ages. Em loved playing video games with the staff, but even more so doing all the crafts. She decorated a t-shirt, colored initial decorations for the whole family and created other little treasures. She loved her friends that worked in the kid’s club and didn’t want to leave. They also were able to pick up the children from dinner after they were done eating and bring them back to your room when tired. Everyone went above and beyond to make every child feel special and cared for.
Emmy’s favorite time was movie night. This was just another example of the service at Grand Velas. One night each week is movie night. The staff spends all day setting up a huge theater for the children (and families) to enjoy a movie under the stars, complete with a concession stand and party favors. Emmy quickly finished her meal and Pete took her down to the movie while we finished our meals. Knowing that she was one of the only children at the resort that night, they still went all out. They do this even if there is one child at the resort. That is their dedication to creating an unforgettable vacation.
The Ocean, Beach, and Pools
You come to Mexico and you want a beautiful beach, right? Grand Velas delivers.
Although the ocean isn’t for swimming due to the strong waves, you won’t miss it at all with all the glorious pools like this one right on the edge of the sand!
You can also lounge on these chairs and watch the waves crash along the sand.
All in all, there are three pool levels. At the top is a kid’s pool, down a level to the family pool, and then the adults-only pool. There are spas and swim-up bars too!
Not to be forgotten is the shallow pool and splash pad for the children. Right past it is a play set area.
Mine and Pete’s favorite place to relax was right here at the bottom level.
It was perfect at all times of the day.
For a truly luxurious all-inclusive vacation for the whole family to Cabo, you will be thrilled to stay at Grand Velas Los Cabos.
