We have been having an awesome summer! Lot’s of traveling and tons of fun! This past week we have been enjoying some time at home. Even though we haven’t gone anywhere I still wanted to make some more summer memories with my family!

When I asked them what they wanted to do they said go camping!

We looked at our calendars and realized that Pete and I were just too busy to get away for a camping trip so we did the next best thing and we decided to host our own suburban camping trip right at home!

Here is a step by step guide to hosting your own suburban camping trip…

Before you “go camping” you have to set a couple rules. Most importantly is that even though you are camping at home you have to have a no electricity or electronics rule. Plan on a complete blackout! So grab all the flashlights!

After that, there are only a few things that you need to do to get all set up for your “at home camping trip”.

Food, Fun and A Place To Sleep.

  • Fun! Plan some scary storytelling and hanging out around the campfire roasting marshmallows!
  • A place to sleep! We’ve been known to pitch a tent in the backyard but we’ve also stayed out late and then slept in our own beds. Both ways work!
  • Food! Think campfire favorites like smore’s and hot dogs… but take it up a notch and turn your hot dog into a bacon dog!

These are so simple to make and are always a HUGE hit! Just wrap some Bar-S bacon around a Bar-S hot dog and then add a small drizzle of my secret ingredient… maple syrup! I even have a Bar-S Coupon for you to use when you make these yourself!

Then you just have to cook them over an open flame. Ours took about 10 minutes till they were all done!

The sweet, savory and salty combo was amazing and clean up was super easy too!
