Last week we sneaked away for the day and took the kids to see the Del Mar Horse Races!

We go at least once during the racing season and the kids love it! My middle daughter is an avid horse rider and takes lessons each week. She loves seeing all the horses and the Jockeys riding them. My oldest just loves to analyze the stats and cheer on her favorites!

I myself have been going to the races for years…

{over 30 to be exact… shhh please don’t say anything about that high number since it might even be higher}… and it was an adventure that I looked forward to every year. My Dad’s side of the family lived in San Diego when I was growing {I grew up in Newport Beach} so we always met up with them in Del Mar. It’s so fun to pass on this tradition with my own kids. I love seeing the excitement in their eyes when I tell them we are going to see the horses!

I think the Toddler heard that the races are “Cool As Ever” so she wore her Daddy’s glasses!

We were very lucky to have been provided a box for us all to hang out in and watch the races. I love how clean the place is… When we got there we were all hungry and there was lot’s of food to be had! We ate our way through nachos, soft pretzels and M&M’s. Let’s get real here… when we are on a mini-vacation day trip we let loose of our better eating habits… but I’m just thankful that there were options for us to eat as vegetarians. Don’t worry meat eaters. There were some really good looking hot dogs and sandwiches!

While the kids munched away on the food Pete and I studied the horses and made our picks. Pete’s a long shot kinda guy so he focused on those with the not so great odds of winning. I have much more refined skills when it comes to picking the ponies… ready for it… I read all the names and pick the one I like the most. Definitely, don’t listen to me when it comes to gambling if you want to win! We had tons of fun adult wise and kid wise!

Seriously, guys… the season ends in a few weeks and if you haven’t been yet you’ve just got to pack up the kids and head out to the races! Check out the season info here for specials, family day events and concert info. The races really are “cool as ever”!

Thank you to the DMTC PR dept. for providing my family access to the races to facilitate this review post. All opinions are 100% mine.
