Family keepsakes to pass down to future generations are better than gold. They hold special memories and give comfort as nothing else can.
We absolutely LOVE eBay and have been buying and selling there for almost 20 years! It is our go-to place to shop for everyday necessities and for hard to find items. I can’t even begin to tell you how often we have had eBay save the day when we needed something special. Today I am sharing the first of a series of posts featuring eBay and how it has made our lives better and easier! Thank you to our amazing friends at eBay for sponsoring this post.
A million years ago, when I was a child (slight exaggeration, ha!) I was given a stuffed animal by some very special friends of mine. For years I thought it was a baby gorilla. I named this sweet guy Courageous because he gave me courage. He went everywhere with me and when I went away to college he was the first thing I packed. It sounds so silly to say this out loud, but it is true and there were many nights growing up that having this “security item” really gave me that extra boost of courage.
Then when Maddie was born I dusted him off and he became her “special lovey”. She took him everywhere with her and loved him just as much as I did. Then, Ashley was born. You know where I’m going with this right? Maddie passed him down to Ash. Then Emmy was born, and the cycle continued.
But the thing is, both Maddie and Ash want their own to pass down to their kids… and that makes me SO HAPPY! I love this tradition, but because I got mine 20 years ago, I knew I couldn’t just go to the store and buy one.
I let this sit in my mind for a little while and then one day I was shopping on eBay and it was like a light bulb seriously went off. Why had I not looked there immediately? I did a quick search and I couldn’t find any Couragouses for sale. I was so bummed. I didn’t give up though. I looked again after doing more research and learning that Courageous was actually a Confetti Yeti! You guys, that moment made my head spin. I questioned so much in my life in that split second and then I came back around and accepted that my baby monkey was really a yeti!
With this knowledge, I set up an alert on eBay for “confetti yeti” and not even a week later I got an email saying someone had listed one. I jumped on the computer. Hit “buy it now” and this sweet guy was in our arms super fast!
Emmy was so excited to open the package and surprise her sisters with him. If you are wondering, his name is Courageous too. Not two, but too. I asked Emmy why that name, and she said: “because that is what he looks like”. I slowly backed away from more questions on that.
I know so many of us are already thinking about Christmas and other holiday presents and eBay is perfect for that! Maybe this year you can add a sentimental keepsake gift too… or if you are like me and my search for Courageous, you can find that special treasure year-round on eBay!
eBay is like Christmas every day! You can always find something awesome, and if you’re diligent, you can find some AH-mazing deals!
How special that your kids passed that cute stuffed animal down to each other and want to keep it in the family! I’m checking out that ebay store right now for Christmas gifts!
I am a sentimental fool so if there something I can pass on to my kiddo that is sentimental to me it is the perfect gift. I might have to check this out for Christmas.
You’re so right! eBay is a great idea when searching for something sentimental that you might not easily be able to find on Amazon or Target!
This is the best story ever! We have been shopping ebay forever and have always had great experiences finding treasures.
Love that Ebay always has hard to find items even if it takes a little bit of time. Glad you were able to find another Confetti Yeti aka Courageous!
We use Ebay mostly for selling stuff. You can pretty much find anything you want there.
i love this so much and that all your girls share a love for treasured family keepsakes! We are a big ebay family and plan to do a lot of shopping on the site for the holidays!
I love ebay. It’s such a great place to find those hard-to-find things … and you never know what amazing stuff you might come across!
These little yetis are just too cute! Oh it’s awesome that someone ended up listing one on Ebay so quickly!
That is a good tip for gifts! I love that they are affordable too.
I had a lot of special treasures but they were ruined in a fire. Now, all my special treasures are kept in my heart.
I love shopping on eBay… and listing, too! I need to check them out for Christmas!
That’s a beautiful story! I would have thought he was a gorilla too. It’s funny but I had a monkey type thing when I was young too. It was called a Monchichi (sp?) I don’t even remember what happened to it, I must have gave it away but I wish I hadn’t. Maybe I can find a new one on ebay?
Those guys are adorable! I would not have thought to look for anything like that while on eBay.
I was just on eBay tonight looking for gifts as well. They always have a great selection.
Aww, love these treasures. My kids love when we find special treasures. I would have never thought to check out eBay.
Ebay is a great place to find those unique items. Years ago, I was able to find a flip phone that I needed
I find ebay so helpful and it lets me connect with people and not hand money off to big companies.
That is such a funny story. It definitely looks like it could pass easily as a monkey!
I just started using Ebay more, and I love it. Your Courageous story is great.
Ahw, what a charming story. I’ve always wamted to buy from eBay, but they have all kinds of delivery restrictions where I live. Maybe one day…
I love eBay and Etsy for finding unique gifts especially as Christmas is approaching so soon I really need to get on and start planning!!
These are so cute! I love looking on Ebay and Etsy for cute unique gifts. Christmas is coming soon, so i’ll be on there looking!
I cannot think of a child that didn’t have some kind of favorite stuffed animal growing up, it’s sweet that your ‘family yeti’ Courageous has been passed down so many times, but more amazing that it held up that well considering how poorly some toys are constructed.
Ebay definitely has a ton of stuff and I recently heard they sell cars their too which I had no idea about until I saw that on TV.
I used to shop on ebay in the past. But off-late I haven’t. Maybe time to give it a try again.
We’ve been on eBay for 20 years! Yep, account created in 1997 and been buying (and selling) ever since!
I haven’t been on ebay in a long while but I have always found really special and unique items on there when I look. This is great advice.
My husband buys just about everything he needs on ebay. I love this story, your children are so sweet.
Aww this is so cute. I’ve never shopped on eBay but knowing that you can find something like that on there is going to encourage me to check it out. I too had a stuffed animal I loved as a kid but I gave it away to the less fortunate never thinking I might want to give it to my own child one day.
Great post. I used to use ebay all the time but have not in awhile!
I love to surf on Ebay and see what kind of treasures that I can find. I need to go back on and look!
these are amazing ideas. i love the smiling faces.
We have a few special stuffed animals that have been passed down the generations. I also love eBay. I always find amazing stuff there.
I had no idea Ebay was around for this long! I’ve had great success buying and selling too. Love using the site!
Those yeti stuffed animal are too cute. Just in time to get and give as christmas presents this coming holidays. I’m sure will find a lot more on ebay.
Emmy looks like she would totally be kindred spirits with my 7 yr old Molly. She just LOVES stuffed animals, and getting one in the mail is the ultimate.
Have been buying and selling on ebay several years ago but then I stopped. Now is the right time to go back and shop on ebay again. I want to start shopping for some Christmas gifts soon.
Omg! Those monkeys are so adorable! I haven’t shopped in Ebay before but I heard great things!
I used to but honestly, I think my mom got rid of it in the move a long long time ago. That being said, I want to start traditions like that with my husband and I… When we have kids. My husband gave me a necklace on our wedding day and I definitely want to pass that down!
What a great story and those monkeys are so cute! I like that I can always find unique items on ebay.
It is amazing the kinds of things you can find on eBay. I have found a lot of things from my childhood there. I bought my sweetie the old school Electric Football Men game on eBay, the one he would have had when he was a kid.
ebay has been a great resource for our family as well
We love finding treasures on eBay! It’s amazing to find things you never thought you’d be able to get your hands on again. Fun!
I can see how you thought it was a gorilla. Such a cute stuffy! I had 2 teddy bears I loved when I was little.
They look like gorillas to me! Either way, they are very cute! I hardly sharp on ebay but definitely need to now!
eBay as well as ETSY has lots of amazing things. They really do feature special treasures. Love the 2 teddy bears you got.
Such a neat idea! I had a stuffed rabbit someone made off of a pattern. I loved her to pieces, literally lol! They then dug out the old pattern and made one for my daughter.
Those little Yetis are so stinkin cute!! 🙂
