{*Please note* No Toddlers were harmed in the making of this post. “Somebody” was just *stressed* because she was banned from eating any more oranges for the rest of the day after over eating them earlier in the week and having “digestive issues”. I could not make this stuff up.”}
I recently did a SUPER informal poll on my Facebook page about STRESS!
Seems everybody is up to their eyeballs in stress. From worrying about money, to worrying about our kids… we have a lot causing us stress! Since there is no way to avoid stress completely let’s talk about my favorite ways to deal with stress and get back to a happier place!
Here are my favorite ways to help feel better faster:
- Go For A Walk- I don’t care if it’s the dead of winter… head to the mall and get moving. Pack up the kids, grab the dog, throw on a sweater and go to a local park. There are so many ways to get in a good walk… be creative. Exercise releases “happy” chemicals into your body to improve your mood… but moving around can also tire out your body allowing you to get some good sleep too.
- Get some rest- A good nights sleep can clear your mind and a clear mind makes better decisions. Enough said.
- Call a friend- Talking things out can put things in perspective and help you brain storm solutions.
- Indulge in a small treat. Does a chocolate cookie sound soothing at the time? Go for it. As long as you can control yourself and only have one do what makes you feel better.
- Make a list- Write out everything you have to be thankful for. Let yourself be thankful for each and everyone one of them.
- Write out your worries- List them all. Every single thing that is on your mind. If they are going to takeover your mind, might as well put them down on paper too.
- Brainstorm solutions- Write out a solution for everything that is on your worry list. If it is something that is out of your control write our the best outcome possible. Concentrate on the best resolutions.
- Organize a cluttered area- Often when we are stressed we feel out of control. Take back control by organizing an area or aspect of your life.
- Clean Your House- Shine your sink and get all your laundry done. A clean house makes anyone feel better. Marvel in all you have done to provide a clean environment for yourself and the ones you love.
- Imagine the worse case scenario- This one can be hard to do. Imagine the absolute worse outcome for everything you worry about. Most of the time our worst fears never come true and the ones that do are never as bad as we imagine them to be. Even the worst of what we worry about isn’t as bad as our mind leads us to believe.
Above all, remember that “this to shall pass” and you will look back at this moment as a lesson learned. There’s also no point in suffering if you believe your worries need the attention of a professional. Seek out help from your family doctor or tell your family and friends that you need help… you are not alone!
What is your favorite way to deal with stress?
Most days I think I need all of the above for stress! 🙂 ABH
These are all great ideas. I should write or print out and post as a reminder in our home. I stress out so easily it is not even funny. I panic when I feel I don’t have control over the situation. Type ‘A’ personality? You bet! this has got to change. I will print out your list and place in a visible place at home. Thank you for sharing.
