It’s summertime!

This was the last week of school for our girls and we are so excited! There is going to be a lot of relaxing, outdoor fun and some awesome weekend getaways! We have some big trips planned for later this year, but we still want to take a few smaller vacations this summer because summer is a great time to get out and have a good time!

Even when it’s not summertime we still love to go on weekend getaways so I’ve perfected the planning of them. I’m sharing this guide with my tips for how to plan a weekend getaway.

1. Pick your date. Sit down with your calendar and plan out some time. We are aiming for at least one weekend vacation a month. If you have the flexibility to travel during the work week you can often find more availability then too, so consider a mid week “weekend” getaway!

2. Pick a location within a 4 hour drive. We’ve found that the best time to leave is in between the morning and evening rush hours. Plus a drive of more than 4 hours can become tiresome.

3. Leave early in the day so that you can get the most of your vacation and arrive at check in time. Don’t lose any of your vacation by arriving too late in the day.

4. Chose a location with something for everyone in your group. Pete and I love views and the girls love fun… and we all love food so those are our priorities for a good vacation.

5. Check for specials. Marriott.com has a great special right now called the CELEBRATE SUMMER EVENT. The Celebrate Summer Event is all about getting up to $100 in resort credits for each day you stay, to be used on site at one of the many restaurants, spas, etc available if you book your stay before September 7th, 2015 (9/15).

It’s basically like getting up to $100 bonus dollars to spend each day you stay – which means you get to worry less about your budget.

We love staying at Marriott’s because there is so much to do!

You can bring your family to the lazy rivers, golf on the PGA-level courses, and wear shorts into the lobby when you grab drinks. You can find yourself on a waterslide one hour and in a business meeting or elegant, 300-person wedding the next. Make s’mores at the nightly campfire at the JW in San Antonio, catch a concert at L.A. LIVE, or try the incredible sushi at the Marco Island Marriott.

Which U.S. Marriott Resort hotel you would most like to visit and why?

  • Fun! Hopefully we will be getting to do a trip this summer. We loved the Marriot in Charlotte when we stayed, the food was wonderful and the service was so great. They even had an indoor/outdoor pool.. coolest thing ever.

  • These are all great tips. We usually do a few weekend getaways each season.

  • We have done a few weekend getaways! We leave as early as we can and get there to get started on the vacation! Great tips!

  • Oh that boat tour looks so romantic, but you’d have a hard time prying me away from the sushi bar! Oh I can’t wait until we can plan some romantic getaways!

  • You are so right, being in a car for any more than 4 hours to reach your destination is tiring, especially if you are traveling with kids. If I’m bored and tired after 4 hours, then they would certainly be 100 times crankier than I. These are really great tips for getting away for the weekend. I really like staying at places that have included entertainment or amenities that can entertain and occupy during the slow times.

  • I have stayed at Marriott Hotels in the past and they never disappoint. I won’t be going anywhere this summer–just staying home with my cat and reading and trying to stay cool.

  • We would love to stay at the Marriot in Miami… Never been and would love nothing more than to actually be able to go on a vacation!

  • I’d like to visit the marriott in Las Vegas to go with my friends for a reunion!!!
