back to school time

This summer seems like it has flown by!

We have been so busy making memories that school starting again just sneaked up on us! That’s okay though, because our girls all LOVE going to school…especially Emmy. To make sure that we are all excited and ready for this new year, we have learned some simple tips that have now turned into back to school traditions for us!

BIC

The first thing we do is to include them in all of the preparations. From picking out their school supplies, to planning the food they will bring in their lunch boxes. We have learned that the back to school experience is always better when they are comfortable with their supplies. Each child is so different too, so what works for one might not work for the other. When they are part of the shopping process, they are sure to get the best things for them. Emmy was so excited by all the different types of pencils that BIC has. She gets that from me. I can’t have enough mechanical pencils! The BIC® Velocity® Side Clic™ Mechanical Pencil was Emmy’s favorite one and BIC’s newest Velocity pencil with convenient button on the grip for quick lead advance!

Our other big tip is to talk about, share, and write how they are feeling and what they are looking forward to in the coming school year. These don’t have to be goals per se, but just a fun way of getting excited about what is to come. I always love their responses so we’ve started writing down what we talk about.

This year we are incorporating some talking prompts from BIC as we share their really great scholarship contest!  Here are all the details:

BIC wants to know what your child(ren) would do if they were principal for a day! back to school tips 1

Ashley and I spent an afternoon with Emmy talking about the new school year. She picked out some new pencils and then we all sat down, and Emmy shared some fun thoughts she has about school! We chose to have her print these out herself because handwriting is important and has numerous emotional and cognitive benefits for children. It is also an essential part of a child’s education, and helps them express their creativity and develop their best self! Research shows that handwriting promotes critical thinking, reading comprehension, fine motor skills development, creativity, and even self-confidence. Plus, it is just fun to do!

We asked her the following questions:

1. What would you do if you were principal for the day?

Fight For Your Write

2. What are you looking forward to the most this school year?

back to school conversation starters for kids

3. What is your favorite subject?

BIC pens

4. What is your favorite activity at recess?

BIC pencils

We were all cracking up over her answers! In addition to these getting her thinking about and excited for back to school time, they are also going to be dear memories that I will cherish forever!

How do you get your kids excited to go back to school?
