Yesterday we ventured out to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park to see the amazing Butterfly Jungle! Thank you so much to the Safari Park for providing us entry into the park! We were a little late to the party because the exhibit only goes till Sunday the 7th of April… but boy am I happy we were able to squeeze it into the girls spring break! To say it is magical is a huge understatement!

IF

Right before you enter into the butterfly rain forest you travel through a cave decorated with bright colored butterflies and caverns of snakes!

IF

We could have stayed the whole day just looking at the exotic snakes and cockroaches… did I mention the HUGE cockroaches? Yep… fascinating! I’m just thankful they live here where they can be appreciated because they would not be welcome in my home!

IF

As we walked into the aviary that was bursting with vibrant colored butterflies we stood in awe and just took it all in. Living on over 4 acres we get plenty of wildlife and butterflies but this was different. The colors that these butterflies had splashed all over their wings was almost shocking. Like take your breath away and squeal with delight kinda shocking. It was THAT cool!

IF

The girls just stood still and put their arms out and let the magic happen. Before we knew it we were getting little butterfly kisses from every which way. Amazing!

IF

I totally got in on the action and tried to capture some of them on my camera phone. It was mesmerizing.

IF

This guy was my favorite. See that streak of blue? Once he opened his wings the blue spread across his whole back like a summer sunrise. So cool!

IF

Everywhere we looked we saw bursts of color coming from every direction. It’s the most calming experience yet totally exciting at the same time.

IF

The kids couldn’t get enough of the Butterfly Jungle but they were excited to explore the rest of the park and see the many animals…

IF

Seriously we felt like we were embarking on a safari into Africa! Look at this view!

IF

We hopped on the tram and we were off!

IF

This was my favorite moment of our time in Africa. A one month old Rhino! Adorable!

IF

Flamingos! IF

My three year old saying “Hey”… she didn’t appreciate being interrupted during her quest to see EVERY animal there!

IF

Our last stop was to take pictures as butterflies. I love these cut out photo ops!

IF

And I love these random educational moments. They pop up everywhere and the animal handlers are so knowledgeable… but really… this owls expression is priceless!

Be sure to hop on over and check out Butterfly Jungle now through April 7th! It makes a great nearby day trip that will inspire the kids and leave them beyond excited about nature.
