A couple years ago we realized we were just living life, but not really living life. It was the same old thing day in and day out. And you know what, it was comfortable. There were not many downs and there were not many ups either. It just was. Then our oldest started high school and we realized we wanted more from life together as a family before she moved on to the next part of her life. We wanted to really live life and get the most out of every day as a family.
Our idea of really living life was going all out. Schooling our kids the non-traditional way and by showing them the world was just the start. What began by planning memory-making trips to places we had never been before, quickly turned into traveling over 150 days a year.
From ice-cold locations rich in American History to visiting hot and humid places where people still make a living working on a plantation, our girls are seeing the world in an entirely different way.
Plus, we are having a lot of fun along the way. We are enjoying some unique food while meeting new people and seeing the world through their eyes and not just our own. We are living a completely new life now, and we are sharing these adventures with the world along the way. This is the life we were meant to live.
Even though this idea came to us overnight, executing it certainly didn’t. We had to sit down and make a plan that allowed us all to be comfortable with the choice we were making. We had to think about the financial aspect of this too. We are lucky that I have this platform to be a professional storyteller and that I have an audience to share this all with. That helped tremendously in the beginning stages of our adventures and it has grown from there. Pete too has a flexible career in real estate that allows him to travel often. We had the beginning stages of our plan ready with our career choices, but the real confidence to pursue this came from knowing we also had the rest of our financial plan ready to go including insurance and investments.
Northwestern Mutual shares our same beliefs that when you have a financial plan that shows you your whole picture, including insurance and investments, you’ll have the financial confidence to “Live Life Differently”. For us, it was big picture thinking. We started with a general idea of what we wanted our family life to look like, and then we put the pieces together of all aspects of our daily life and financial life to make it happen. Seeing it this way gave us the push to start living life differently. This is something that we had only dreamed of in the past!
How do you live life differently?
