This post contains affiliate links. We may earn compensation when you click on the links at no additional cost to you.

This quick guide will help you start your blog in less than 5 minutes.

Disclosure: The Bluehost links below are affiliate links so that you can get this low price and we earn some revenue (at no cost to you) when you use them. There is no need to use a coupon code when you use these links. The very low price- just $2.75 a month and your domain free for the first year is already applied with these affiliate links.

Use these steps to start your blog:

1. Click on this link and select “Get Started Now”This is the big green button below.

2. Click the green “Select” button under BASIC.

Pick the best bluehost plan

3. Type the domain name you want to use for your blog in the “create a new domain” box and select the blue “Next” button.

Note: You can also choose to use a domain you already own or decide on one later to still get it free for the first year.

4. Create your account and fill in your information.

5. Lower the price by Toggling on the “Account Plan” (in green below) and change it to “Basic 12 Month Price”.

Note: The “BASIC 36 Month” locks in the lowest monthly price.

6. Uncheck all the “Package Extras” boxes for the lowest price.

Note: We do recommend Domain Privacy Protection so that your name and contact information is not visible in the public domain registry. But, if you are on a budget, you can uncheck it.

7. Complete the payment information, check the box agreeing to the terms, and press the green “SUBMIT” button.

Congrats!!!  You did it! You are now officially a blog owner.

  • Hi Heather,
I already have an established blog hosted on wordpress with a domain name, etc. that I’ve been doing as a hobby, but would like to learn how to make money from it. Do I still need to go through SiteGround?
    Thanks! Chris

    • Hi Chris! It’s Pete answering here because I handle most of the hosting and technical side with our site. It sounds like you probably already have a self hosted wordpress site. Are paying for a host now? If you are, that should be all you need to get going for now. SiteGround isn’t the only host out there, but they are the best in my opinion…and we’ve been through a lot of them! Let me know if there is anything else I can answer for you.

      • Hi Pete,
Thank you for getting back to me. That’s good news. I pay my site hosting annually and just renewed in February. If I find too many limitations for change I may switch to SiteGround at that time. Thanks again! Chris

  • This article is so helpful! Hoping to start my family blog this summer and I need all the tips I can get! ☺

  • After setting up the blog how do you make money as I didn’t see any info on adding a PayPal or bank account for money to be deposited in?

  • I’m new to this. Can you please explain to me why a host site is needed? It looks like I could create a blog site through WordPress without going through SiteGround but I would like to know the pros & cons of doing so.

    Thanks,
    Jennifer

    • Hi Jennifer, A company like SiteGround or Bluehost is where you need to go if you are looking to generate income with your blog. When you are self hosted, you control everything. WordPress.com is a beginner type site where they make it easy, but they control everything about your site too. When you are self hosted, you are in total control of your site and the ways in which you can make income. Here are a couple of links you should check out: This is the new deal we have worked out for hosting.
Also, here is the link to our Facebook group which is geared towards getting your blog started and there is great information and support here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1386052068132248/
