How To Invest In Yourself For 2016

When I was in college, the idea of going to school and doing all the work was just that, work. I wasn’t nearly as motivated as I was years after college ended. Now learning is one of my favorite things to do. Thank you to Concordia University for sponsoring this post.

How To Invest In Yourself

This year we are investing in ourselves.

That means we are helping ourselves grow in all sorts of ways and we are making it a priority. It’s all part of the “experiences over things movement” and I think it’s great. One of the most import ways to invest in yourself is to write out your goals and make them happen.

I was really happy to see that Concordia University thinks this is important too. They even have a free online mini-course dedicated to just that. The course is called Functioning Above Entry Level. It’s an online course that will help us to understand our personal strengths and gain the confidence needed to boldly move forward in all of our callings.

Now is the time to put personal development at the top of our to-do list.

Functioning Above Entry Level consists of an introductory email, three lessons, and a thank you email after course completion. They make it simple in that it’s all computer based and delivered straight to your inbox. You can complete it on your time and work through each lesson as your schedule allows. I would schedule about 1 week and 3-4 hours to complete.

Because people learn in different ways, the course consists of essays, videos, interactive polls, and download journals.  All of the content is taken from Concordia University Wisconsin’s 100% online one year Master’s in Organizational Leadership and Administration.

At first I wasn’t sure what to expect when I learned the course was focused on taking you from entry level to a higher place, but it’s actually for everyone at all starting places. Entry level means the level where you are now, your current starting point. So this could be someone working a true entry level position to a VP looking to move up from there. Everyone can benefit from this course.

Simply put, how do you position yourself to get from point A to point B? The answer – you have to function above entry level.

The course starts with an intro featuring a short video and some instruction to get you started on the right food.

Then it moves on to the following topics:

Level 1 is a discussion and learning module on Emotional and Social Intelligence. It digs deep into self awareness and self regulation and then it touches on social skills and beyond. Really great points when thinking beyond where you are today and into where you want to go.

Level 2 is all about Internal Forces. This is where I think I could use the most work. I feel like I am often the one holding me back. It starts with our internal thinking.

Level three closes with a lesson on External Forces. This module helps us understand how external forces contribute to our well-being.  It involves recognizing training, leadership, and national culture to help us take it up to the next level!

If you are ready to go from your entry level to the next step I really encourage you to sign up for this free course today!

Have you set your goals for 2016 yet?
