When I was in college, the idea of going to school and doing all the work was just that, work. I wasn’t nearly as motivated as I was years after college ended. Now learning is one of my favorite things to do. Thank you to Concordia University for sponsoring this post.
This year we are investing in ourselves.
That means we are helping ourselves grow in all sorts of ways and we are making it a priority. It’s all part of the “experiences over things movement” and I think it’s great. One of the most import ways to invest in yourself is to write out your goals and make them happen.
I was really happy to see that Concordia University thinks this is important too. They even have a free online mini-course dedicated to just that. The course is called Functioning Above Entry Level. It’s an online course that will help us to understand our personal strengths and gain the confidence needed to boldly move forward in all of our callings.
Now is the time to put personal development at the top of our to-do list.
Functioning Above Entry Level consists of an introductory email, three lessons, and a thank you email after course completion. They make it simple in that it’s all computer based and delivered straight to your inbox. You can complete it on your time and work through each lesson as your schedule allows. I would schedule about 1 week and 3-4 hours to complete.
Because people learn in different ways, the course consists of essays, videos, interactive polls, and download journals. All of the content is taken from Concordia University Wisconsin’s 100% online one year Master’s in Organizational Leadership and Administration.
At first I wasn’t sure what to expect when I learned the course was focused on taking you from entry level to a higher place, but it’s actually for everyone at all starting places. Entry level means the level where you are now, your current starting point. So this could be someone working a true entry level position to a VP looking to move up from there. Everyone can benefit from this course.
Simply put, how do you position yourself to get from point A to point B? The answer – you have to function above entry level.
The course starts with an intro featuring a short video and some instruction to get you started on the right food.
Then it moves on to the following topics:
Level 1 is a discussion and learning module on Emotional and Social Intelligence. It digs deep into self awareness and self regulation and then it touches on social skills and beyond. Really great points when thinking beyond where you are today and into where you want to go.
Level 2 is all about Internal Forces. This is where I think I could use the most work. I feel like I am often the one holding me back. It starts with our internal thinking.
Level three closes with a lesson on External Forces. This module helps us understand how external forces contribute to our well-being. It involves recognizing training, leadership, and national culture to help us take it up to the next level!
If you are ready to go from your entry level to the next step I really encourage you to sign up for this free course today!
I’ve already set my goals for 2016. This year, I’d like to take more time for myself. Currently I have zero.
This sounds like a great course. You can only go as far as your knowledge and skill.
I am actually in the process of figuring out how to invest more into my own business. I would like to earn a little bit more money than what I do now so I do have goals for this year that I’m hoping to get to
I don’t really have any set goals, but I do want to travel more and make sure my family eats healthier.
It’s so important to invest in ourselves. I am looking forward to this year. I plan to enjoy every day a little more and enjoy my children as they grow.
My goal for this year is to relax more. I am always pushing myself to be the best mom I can be and to grow my business like crazy, when in reality, I really need to take a step back, breathe, and relax.
I have not set any goals yet except to get rid of all of the things that cause stress in my life. Clutter being top on that list. I need to work on helping myself grow and how to spend less time making more money :).
I’m starting a mid-life journey and waiting to see where it takes me!
My husband went to Concordia for his undergrad. He loved that school.
This is broken down really nicely – I love the levels!
That course sounds like it’s really helpful. I haven’t set any solid goals for myself this year but I should!
It would be so nice to be able to study again. I love that we have courses like these that we can learn through email or even online classes. Thanks for sharing!
I’d love to have more time for myself, more travel adventures with my family and less time being sick. Those are my goals for 2016. Doable? Yes.
I love the emphasis on life long learning. It is so great to adopt a goal that involves education and anything that furthers that is definitely worthwhile.
It is so important to always keep learning and moving up. This sounds like it would be very helpful.
I love to set goals for myself at the start of each new year. Constant learning and improvement is a must for me!!
One of the best investments is the improvement of self. I would like to give myself a chance to improve.
I know that I am holding myself back. Much of the time it is my own personal negative “self-talk” that prevents me from accomplishing my own goals.
This sounds like a fascinating course to take. I have a lot of work to do this year. I am changing my carer path and plan on doing a lot of travelling.
Looks interesting. I didn’t invest for my self but this year i want to travel alone.
This is sounds interesting, I had no idea about this before but I found interesting, thanks for sharing us.

I have so little time for myself. This year I should invest more in myself.
This sounds like a great goal for 2016 and I know it’ll be totally worth-it. I’ve set several goals for this year too and would do the best I can to achieve it.
I am devoting an hour a day for myself by doing my work out. 1 Mile a day is my goal, so far so good.
These are awesome tips. My goal for this year is to lower my debt and save more money.
I have set a few goals for 2016, most involve around my serious procrastination of late. LOL!! Love your post!!
My goal is to worry more about myself this year and less about everyone else for once. I would also like to travel with my family.
Our goal for this year is to find a new home that is quiet and comfortable.
We have been moving around looking for a nice place and we thought we found a good spot, but we have not, so we keep going.
These are wonderful tips for kicking off the new year in a new direction. It is always good to read things like this that give some direction to that path you need!
I decided this year to set goals for myself instead of making resolutions. I love the tips you shared for kicking off the New Year in the right direction.
I haven’t set up any goals yet. Just hope for great things in 2016 :)Thanks for sharing these tips
As every new year starts, I think we all have our own goals set & I am pretty sure many of us fail to achieve them, but we keep on trying. My goal would be to improve my business & also make sure to have my own me time to take care of my health as well.
I have to set some goals yet for this year! I have been dragging around what to do with myself and need some motivation.
This sounds like a great goal to work towards, I need to invest more in myself this year.
I’ve set a lot of goals for this year! Both in my personal life, and with my blog. Excited about whats to come!
Investing in yourself first is always a good idea. This course sounds great for those who are ready to make a professional transition.
These are good tips. I think a lot of times we worry so much about everyone else we forget what’s good for us or what we need to do for ourselves…I think it’s okay to be a little “self”ish sometimes and invest in ourselves.
