Healthier Cinco de Mayo Celebration Drinks! Frozen Strawberry Margaritas and Skinny Tequila Sunrise!

Take it away Mary… Being healthy is extremely important to me, but I'm not all work and no play! Sometimes you need to celebrate, maybe have something you haven't had in a while or that you've been really craving. What better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than with healthy tequila drinks!

Yes, you heard me right, healthy tequila drinks! I've got two drink recipes that are sure to hit the spot without pushing you over your recommended calorie intake!

Up first, a healthy twist on the traditional margarita! Margaritas can easily top 500 calories when made with prepackaged mixes and salt rims. For your Cinco De Mayo celebration, try the following frozen strawberry version! It's made with fresh ingredients and adding the ice stretches it further, making you feel more satisfied after having just one. Skip the salt rim on this version. Trust me, you won't miss it! The best thing about this recipe? You get your tequila fix for less than 200 calories!

Frozen Strawberry Margarita

  • 4 large strawberries, washed with leaves removed
  • 1/4 cup Sauza tequila, made with fresh blue agave
  • 1/4 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 1 oz. Cointreau
  • Handful of ice
  • Strawberry for garnish

Pour all ingredients in your blender. Use the ice crush setting to mix it until smooth. Divide between 2 margarita glasses. Garnish by slicing strawberry and topping the margarita with it, or cut a slit in the strawberry and slide it onto the rim of the glass. Makes 2 serving.

Calories: 198 per serving when prepared with above ingredients.

Skinny Tequila Sunrise

  • 1 1/2 oz Sauza tequila, made with fresh blue agave
  • 4 oz original orange juice, no pulp
  • 1 oz diet cranberry juice
  • Orange round for garnish

Add tequila and orange juice to a shaker filled with ice. Shake to combine and strain into a tall glass. Slowly pour cranberry juice over the top and watch as it creates a beautiful rendition of a sunset! Serve with an orange round on the rim of the glass. Makes 1 serving.

Calories: 60 per serving when prepared with above ingredients

  1. oh my lord these look so good. it may be 8am but now i want a margarita!

    i’ve had non-alcoholic margaritas before, they’re just as good! they don’t have the bite since there isn’t any tequila but they are still very yummy yummy.
