Five Big Reasons I Finally Started Invisalign Treatment

My daughter and I received complimentary Invisalign® treatment, but all opinions expressed are my own. Full disclosure.

The first of the year is always full of resolutions. Some we keep, some we start, and some that just sound good on paper are in our heads.

For years my resolution was to finally take the steps to have straight teeth and a smile I was proud of. It wasn’t always this way though. When I was in high school I had metal braces and right before I went off to college I had them removed. I LOVED my smile and vowed to do everything I could to keep it looking awesome.

Then those crazy college years hit. I was working, going to school, and having fun. I would forget to put my retainer on at night and then that turned into a week, a month, and before I knew it, I didn’t even know where to find my retainer.

When I moved from my apartment a couple of years later, I found it in its case at the back of the medicine cabinet. At that point, the damage was done and one of my teeth popped up high above the rest. For over a decade and a half, it would be the one thing that bothered me the most.

It took my then three-year-old to finally make me seek out help and get Invisalign treatment when she kept pointing out my “high” tooth.

If you have a less than perfect smile, you will probably relate to these five reasons why I finally got the smile of my dreams with Invisalign treatment:

  1. My daughter even noticed my out of sort tooth. It wasn’t just me that was bothered by it. Who else was thinking about it too? I became even more self-conscious about it.
  2. Treatment is pretty quick. You may change your clear aligners as quickly as once a week (at the direction of your Orthodontist) and before you know it, you have a beautiful new smile.
  3. It is so convenient. With Invisalign treatment you receive several aligners at each visit and you won’t have to worry about emergency visits due to broken wires or brackets. With Invisalign treatment, you are given clear aligners that go over your teeth and you change them at home, or on the road while you are traveling or any other place you might find yourself. As a busy mom and business owner, the last thing I wanted to do was to bog down my schedule with even more appointments. This totally solved that problem and kept me sane. It was also a lot quicker than I thought it would be to get my new smile.
  4. I can eat whatever I like. This was another big deal to me. If I wanted to have something sticky like taffy, I could. With braces that is totally not the case.
  5. It isn’t obvious I am getting treatment.  I loved knowing that few people even knew I was getting treatment to straighten my teeth. To most people it is virtually invisible. I could see it myself, but I was that one wearing it, so that is to be expected. Pete had a hard time telling when I was wearing and when I wasn’t… as were most people I came into contact with during my day to day life.

  • I think Invisalign is the best invention in oral care ever! When I was in kid, the only option were traditional braces, which are soooo tedious and horrible.

  • I’ve been curious about Invisalign! For myself and my twin. This looks like a great option – I could never go with traditional braces at this point in my life!

  • Invisalign treatment sounds really good – I spent years having my teeth sorted when I was younger and they have slightly moved back at the bottom which is a shame. Good luck with your treatment.

  • I think this is a better alternative to braces. Some people won’t want others to know they’re having their teeth done, so Invisalign would be perfect for them.

  • Invisalign is an amazing way to correct bite issues. The biggest plus in my book is that it’s not obvious you’re wearing anything.

  • This is something that I’d love to do. Growing up, our insurance didn’t cover much when it came to orthodontics, so my parents never got me braces. Now as an adult, our insurance doesn’t cover adult orthodontics. I hope that one day we can afford to actually do this.

  • My daughter did metal braces, and what a pia! She was always breaking the brackets and I felt like we lived at the orthodontist. I think Invisalign would have been a much better way to go.

  • That’s fabulous that you were able to do something to fix your smile after so many years. My daughter has braces, but I could see the benefit of a clear solution like Invisalign for Adults.

  • This is great! Sometimes even if we have perfectly aligned teeth, something comes up in adulthood that would require you to wear braces again. Invisalign is an awesome way to get that beautiful smile back!

  • My daughter had to wear braces when she was in 7th grade. She was called “metal mouth” by her classmates. I wish there was Invisalign back then. It would have been a whole lot easier!

  • This is a great option! Having braces is not easy, I will check more on this and share to my friends who might get interested like me.

  • Your teeth look fantastic! I never needed braces as a kid, but my teeth shifted as an adult. It’s a goal of mine to start Invisalign as soon as I can afford it!

  • I like that it’s hard to detect if you’re wearing it. Braces are so out there for everyone to see!

  • I was always afraid of getting my teeth straightened because of the high cost of the treatment and the braces needed to be worn for over a year. I didn’t know about the Invisalign treatment, I will look into it. I’d love perfect teeth

  • For adults, I think that invisalign is the the best option provided your alignment can be corrected with this treatment option. I like the pros and cons that you listed…being able to eat whatever you want is a big plus.

  • That’s such a cool thing you are doing. And I am with you that it’s great you don’t have to change your eating habits because of the treatment as opposed to with braces. I wonder if they can do anything with a snaggle tooth though. I will have to check this out.

  • This sounds like a really great option instead of traditional braces. I should look into these myself!
