There are so many things to remember during back to school time. From backpacks to papers to fill out, but one thing you do not want to forget is to be on alert for head lice. This is a sponsored post partnership with Vamousse.
Little Emmy started school yesterday.
The summer flew by and before I knew it school was starting again. I remembered to buy a backpack and lunch box. We created a school lunch plan (extra fruit & water with no ice… per Emmy) but I almost forgot one thing that could derail our school year… resistant lice. Because nobody has time for that!
I can’t tell you how many times we have dodged infestation in our home.
Each year there has been a scare in each of the girls schools. When my older girls were younger I remember a really bad year when there was a case (or two) in each of their classrooms multiple times. It makes me itch just thinking about it. Back then we were on constantly watching for early signs of head lice, in addition to taking steps to limit their chance of getting head lice. We taught them not to share hats or jackets with hoods, we talked to them about not using their friends hairbrushes or hair bows and we told them that if they did end up with lice it wasn’t their fault. Hair lice tends to like clean hair so it’s nothing to be ashamed of either.
One thing we didn’t have back when my older two were younger but we do for my little one is a gentle shampoo that can be used daily in place of their regular shampoo if they are exposed to a lice outbreak. How awesome is that? That new shampoo is called Vamousse Lice Defense, it is a pesticide-free daily shampoo that defends against infestation after exposure stopping lice before an infestation can take hold. Daily use for 10 – 14 days following the risk of exposure kills lice before you know they are there. Perfect for use when there is an outbreak at school, for the whole family following treatment of a child, or if head lice is a concern when going to camp or a sleepover.
I keep a bottle at home just in case.
And because sometimes there isn’t time for defending against infestation and you need a good treatment, Vamousse also offers a Lice Treatment that is a pesticide-free mousse that eradicates active head lice infestations with a single 15-minute application. It works differently, killing lice by dehydration, so it is effective against strains of lice that have developed resistance to the pesticides traditionally used, such as pyrethrins and permethrin.
I’m sure you have been following the news lately about the strains that are resistant, which makes my skin crawl… so this is a really good product to know about in case you need it!
Be sure to know the early signs of lice and that Vamousse Lice Defense is available nationwide at Walmart and online at Amazon.com, Drugstore.com and Walmart.com with an MSRP of $12.99.

Have you had a run in with head lice?
I have three daughters at the same elementary school and every fall there is always a high alert for lice! There are papers sent home and I’m constantly checking heads! If we ever get it, I know it will be so difficult to get rid of. It’s good to know there are products like Vamousse Lice Defense and that it’s reasonably priced!
What perfect timing! We just posted about lice today also. Seems to already be going around!
I did not know that a preventive shampoo even existed. That sure would have been great to have when my kids were young.
That definitely sounds nice to have for emergencies. Those lice can spread so quickly at school.
Parents definitely need to be armed with this for back to school! My kids luckily never got lice but I would freak OUT if they did!
This is so gross, but I definitely need to be prepared now that my son is in school. Glad to know which products to run and grab if we need them.
I remember worrying about how these spread when my oldest was in grade school. I’v e heard they’re tough to get rid of.
our school just announced something about lice case.. 2 kids got affected
I have heard that lice is going to be crazy this year. Thankfully, my boys keep their hair pretty short. I remember one time with my daughter I went through a bunch of trouble trying to get life out of her hair. I would get her free and send her back to school only to come back home with it. I complained to the daycare about it. I feel bad but I had to end up spraying Off bug spray in my daughters hair just to try and prevent her from getting more. I’m glad to see there is a preventative solution now.
I’m so scared of my kids getting lice. It’s my worst nightmare.
This is something I fear when my son starts school – yikes! But glad to know there are good products out there to help!
Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to protect your child from things like head lice, there’s always a contributing “unstoppable” factor. Lol. This is a great way to protect them from head lice.

We have luckily avoided it so far! This looks like a great (and easy) tool to deal with it!
My daughter had to go help a friend with her daughter’s hair as she picked up lice the first week back to school. I never had the problem as a child and neither did my daughter – thank heavens!
Never had this problem with my kids,, i guess the sulfur soap works wonders since its an old family traditional remedy we have been using for generations.
I guess lice can be part of the back-to-school process. A good idea to have a product like this on hand in case your child gets them.
Thankfully we haven’t had lice. Good idea to have treatment on hand.
I don’t think I ever needed to worry about this as a kid. I don’t have any either. It’s good to know though.
This is a good product to keep handy. So far, there are no cases in school and I hope it will be that way for the rest of the school year.
That sounds like a great product! We’re just starting school this year, so I’m terrified of an outbreak. I think I will pick some of this up to be prepared. Your daughter has gorgeous hair, by the way 🙂
Somehow I managed to escape the lice with my kids. I have no idea how I got so lucky!
My siblings and I dealt with head lice as children! We were living in a run down apartment complex in Reno and we used to roll around on the carpet, which is how we got it. It was so gross, and such a hassle to get rid of. So important to know about reliable products to turn to if you have to deal with something like that!
My sister and I managed to escape lice when we were little but I had a bunch of friends that went through it, not fun at all! It’s awesome that there is a preventative option now!

Oh, ew… I would have a mini-meltdown I think if my kids brought home lice. Luckily I’ve never had an encounter throughout my years in school, as a teacher and now as a parent (fingers crossed!!!!) Thanks to your post though, I know what to do if they ever emerge…
Thank you for sharing! I will need to check out this product especially since its back to school time.
