Last week when we were at Disneyland, it was a very busy Saturday summer day!
Normally we plan our visits to Disneyland when it is off season, or during the week if it is summertime, but that isn’t always possible to do when you are needing a little Disney magic in your life!
If you are are planning a visit to the Disneyland Parks when it is a busy day, this guide is for you.
So you are going to Disneyland, and it is expected to be a busy day, so be there right when it opens and go straight to Disneyland, leaving California Adventure for a bit later in the day.
Once you are inside the park, head straight to the right and enjoy the Season Of The Force! This area gets busy super fast, so enjoy this all right away. There are a few rides that you can get fast passes for, like Hyper Space Mountain!
Don’t forget Astro Blasters! This ride often has little to a reasonable wait and is fun for the whole family.
Another fun thing to do in the area is the water ball, especially when it is hot out! Little ones love to test their strength.
Now head towards Adventureland!
Go and get a Fast Pass for Indiana Jones and enjoy a treat while you are waiting for your time!
Our favorite treat when it is hot out is a Dole Whip or pineapple spear. Both can be found in adventure land.
Tarzan’s Treehouse is also in the area and fun to go on.
Now head towards Pirates of the Caribbean. This ride is one of the best to sit back and relax on… and enjoy the air conditioning! It doesn’t seem to get busy until the early afternoon so hopefully you can walk right on it.
Same with The Haunted Mansion which is not too far away!
Be sure to take a picture and be careful of hitchhiking ghosts!
Hop on over and get a Fast Pass for Splash Mountain and then go on The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh while you wait.
Now head back towards Main Street. There are so many places to eat in the area so get some lunch and then check out the wait time board. This is the best place to see what the wait times are. Sometimes we find some really great rides that have low wait times for no real reason. The Cast Members that work here are also some of the most knowledgeable in planning and have great tips for what to see and do based on all sorts of criteria so stop by and say hi and ask them questions.
Here are some really easy tips to having fun on busy Disneyland days:
- Get there early.
- Go the opposite direction of everyone else. Most people go down Main Street and turn left into Adventureland first. Do the opposite and work your way through the parks in a counterclockwise way.
- Use Fast Passes to your advantage. Always have one going after you use one and fill the time in between with less busy rides.
- The kids rides get less busy as the day goes on into the late evening because the kids have gone to sleep.
- Really busy rides are slower during parades and fireworks.
- Make meal reservations at restaurants on busy days as soon as you can. Don’t forget restaurants outside the parks and in the hotels. A couple of our favorites are Goofy’s Kitchen (Disneyland Hotel), Storytellers Cafe (Disney’s Grand Californian) and PCH Grill Buffet (Paradise Pier Hotel).
When the rides are busy, don’t forget all the other fun things to do!
Let the horses show you the way, or get your picture taken with a character (and get their autograph)! People watch, go shopping, have a coffee break (Starbucks in on Main Street), or wander through the park and look for things you haven’t seen before!
After that head over to California Adventure.
Right after you get into the park go straight for Soarin’ Around The World and get a Fast Pass. This new version was just released and is out of this world amazing! We would go on it over and over again, it is that awesome!
Other fun things to do when it is hot and busy is the Adventure Trail, Bugs Life, and have an ice cream at Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop!
It was just announced that the Tower of Terror will be transformed into Guardians of the Galaxy so be sure to go on it while you still can!
There is so much to do at both parks, so don’t let a busy day slow you down! With a little planning and flexibility, busy days at Disneyland can be super awesome too!
I haven’t been to Disneyland is such a long time, but the last time I was there my fav ride was Indiana Jones. It was so different for any of the other rides. Love the Haunted House, it’s been a fav since I was a kid.
