Detroit Coney Dog w Bar-S

We have 5 children in our family! (Plus, my husband & I) That’s a LOT of mouths to feed! Often times, as a mom, I put way too much pressure on myself to put out a huge and complicated dinner for the family. While, it is good to have a big sit down dinner at the dining room table, sometimes it is OKAY to keep it simple and make dinner uncomplicated and fun!

On the nights when I want to keep it simple & fun, I pull out the hot dogs and whip up a batch of Coney Island Chili and we eat outside! We live in Detroit, Michigan. Detroit is known for their Coney Dogs. Every restaurant and family has a variation of the chili sauce, but I LOVE this one that I am going to share with you!

When I grocery shop, I go for the best value for my money. I love the Bar-S Bun Length Franks. My boys are big hot dog fans and they can’t stand it when they have more bun than hot dog. The bun length franks are perfect! And of course, yummy. Bar-S has a lot of great options to choose from. Visit Bar-S Facebook for a chance to win products & prizes!

We grill our Franks either on an outdoor grill or indoor grill pan. I love the burned ones! Once your franks are cooked, assemble and enjoy!

My boys love the classic mustard, ketchup & dill relish as condiments on their franks.

Classic assembly for a Detroit Coney Dog is layered with Coney Sauce, chopped onions and a squirt of mustard.

  1. These hot dogs look yummy. I have never had a Coney Island Hot Dog. I hope to get one when I go to NY in November.

  2. I love eating exactly this kind of yummy food when I’m in the Detroit, Michigan area. I usually go up at least a few times a year. The people are very nice up there too.

  3. I used to get their hotdogs all the time back home and they were great. I have yet to see them where we live now. Those Coney Dogs look so good.

  4. I’m personally not much of a fan of hot dogs, but as my family grows, it’s definitely become a staple in this house. I’ll have to try this out for them.

  5. We love hot dogs so much & these looks very much yummy & delicious. My husband loves anything that is spicy & I would love to add those chili sauce to make it so special.
