This time of year brings out the best in everyone.

I know that everyone in my family is feeling the giving spirit. It’s what we love most about the holidays… spending time together, helping others. This year we have had a lot of talks about being grateful for all we have and helping those that need it… especially when it comes to something as basic as food.

For as long as I can remember our local food bank has been helping those in need by giving out food. And all that time they have never had enough… they always need more to donate so it came as no surprise when I asked my daughters what their Wish For Others is… they want there to be enough food at the food bank for everyone that needs it.

Through a campaign called Wishes For Others “#WishForOthers” Capital One is hoping to help make the holidays a little brighter this year by helping to share and grant people’s wish for others.

You can help make others wished come true too!

This holiday season, Capital One is instead asking people to share their wish for others. As a family we decided what our wish for others was, and this year it was for everyone in our community to have enough food to eat and then I submitted our wish to Capital One.

You can share your wish for someone else too!

Maybe for a family member, a friend, a neighbor, or a community? When you submit your #WishForOthers on Twitter, Instagram, or the Capital One Facebook page from Nov. 24 through Dec. 23 you will be entering for a chance to make it come true!

You can see our video wish for others on Instagram:

To enter your wish head on over to Twitter, your Instagram account or the Capital One Facebook page wall and share your wish with the hashtag #WishForOthers .

What is your biggest wish this holiday season?

  • We donated to our local food pantry a couple of weeks ago. Great lesson for the kids.

  • Giving to others makes the holiday season special. I always collect food to give to those who are less fortunate, it makes their holidays brighter.

  • Oh how nice, I think giving to those in need is so important all year round, and not just at Christmas Time! It is nice to see when people support and help each other.

  • That is a great wish to have. This season I wish that my FIL’s heart would mend. He has had some health complications and is not doing so well

  • I agree with you. I love this time of year because everyone is so giving and loving. How great that you are working hard to make sure others have enough. It’s such a good way to remember what we have instead of thinking of what we want.

  • Initiatives like this are seriously one of my favorite things about the holidays. I think this is a great way to get involved and help others.

  • Thanks for letting me know about this. My kids are so into their electronics now that they are older and I feel like sitting down to do this with them on their devices will make it more engaging while giving them a way to promote caring and community service.

  • I am all for the prevention of poverty, hunger, & homelessness. My wish for the holiday is that everyone does their part & makes a difference in rectifying these issues.

  • We take a trip to the food bank a few times a year to donate- it’s a great things to teach the kids. I wish, this and every holiday season, that there is more love and understanding and less violence and rift in society.

  • We donated a turkey and thanksgiving fixings a few weeks ago and we plan on doing it again for Christmas. Its always great to give back this time of year, but also all year long. 🙂

  • We donate food to our local food bank every month. When there is a big Holiday we always donate a bunch of turkeys.

  • We donate to our local food bank, a lot! Every time I go shopping, I grab a few extra things, and then bring a box. I try to get things that others don’t think of, but they need: dish soap, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, condiments.

  • Since we do not live in a third world country, it would be great if no one EVER had to go hungry!!

  • My holiday wish is that no one will go hungry. We always donate food to our local food bank every month.

  • We teach our children this every year, we have so much and its important to give back. I hope one year we can donate our time when they are older.

  • It would be amazing if nobody went hungry. I hope that all the efforts to collect to help others continues throughout the entire year. So many focus on just the holidays but hunger does not stop when the holidays end.

  • My wish is that all kids in hospitals would have a gift to open this year. It is such a lonely place to be and a gift would be a great way to bring smiles to their faces.

  • Awww…What a cutie, and what a wonderful wish. Nobody should ever go hungry and it is great that during the holidays people are more likely to volunteer and help. I think it is great that your daughter is helping. It is so important for children to realize how blessed they are. I can tell your daughter knows this!

  • I think it’s awful that in a country as rich as this that people are going hungry. We take food to our local food bank on a regular basis.

  • It breaks my heart to think of families going hungry at any time of year. But it seems worse this time of year. We’re all stuffing our faces full of turkey and trimmings, and there are people out there who’d be grateful for a package of crackers. It’s so sad.

  • My daughters are having a band concert this week and part of the concert is them collecting items like this for our local food pantry. I plan to go through our cupboards and bring some items, I feel it is an easy way to give back for sure!

  • Total awesomeness! Love getting the kids involved in service projects. We pick several charities each year and try to do a variety of activities. So important to remember to give back!
