We had so much fun last weekend.
On Saturday, Pete and I started the weekend by joining a bunch of like-minded foodies and fitness fans in San Diego for the John Hancock Hosts The Cooking Light & Health Fit Foodie Race Weekend! This is an event unlike any I’ve ever been to. In addition to a 5k and 10K run/walk, there was also the John Hancock Vitality Village, the ultimate post-race experience that rewards a job well done and celebrates participants’ hard work through delicious and healthy experiences.
We would have normally jumped at the chance to participate, but we had to go straight to another commitment. So, we cheered on the runners and walkers, and we enjoyed the John Hancock Vitality Village for the morning. Pete has really been getting into running more and I love walks, especially by the water, so we have decided we have to do it next year. As we walked through the Vitality Village, we were so pumped up by the energy of everyone at the event. There were so many people there, and it really inspired us to continue to eat healthy food and get moving! Even though we didn’t run in the race, we still managed to walk over 5 miles! There were so many things happening with cooking demonstrations and foods to sample that the morning flew by!
I love how at the three-day John Hancock Hosts The Cooking Light & Health Fit Foodie Race Weekend, calories are both burned and earned because fitness without good nutrition is not nearly as impactful on your health as when you combine the two. This is something that Pete and I talk about all the time and our daughters have grown up knowing. They go hand in hand for good health. It is not enough to exercise alone. Good nutrition is just as important and really easy to accomplish with the right knowledge and tools.
That’s why John Hancock has created John Hancock life insurance with Vitality, which rewards people for the healthy choices they make…. like exercising, seeing the doctor, and now, purchasing healthy foods at the grocery store. With John Hancock Vitality and the new HealthyFood program, not only can you save up to $600 a year on the nutritious foods you buy, but you can also significantly save on your life insurance premium and earn valuable rewards and everyday savings for those healthy food purchases.
This is such a revolutionary idea and one that just makes sense. We really enjoyed learning more about John Hancock life insurance with Vitality while we watched everyone cross the finish line and pick up their medals! It was so nice seeing the joy and sense of accomplishment they were feeling!

Have you participated in any races?

People always think you have to make huge changes to get healthy, but it’s just not true. All you need to do is make small changes.
I love this post. I’ve been making some small changes for myself like eating whole grain bread and a few more veggies, and I already feel better.
Sounds like a fun race. I don’t run so I have never been in a race but if I did run this is exactly the kind of race I would enter.
I am that person who says next year I’m running. I’ve been saying it for 5 yrs now. I would love to do this I just need the will power to get out there and start! Go You!!!
Small changes definitely add up over time. It looks like they really put on a great event as well.
This is a great idea, that like you said, makes sense. I have never done a race like this, but I would love to be a part of something like this. It takes only small steps for a better lifestyle.
This looks like a great event. I have never done a race in my life… at all. I have so many friends that participate in different kinds and it’s definitely motivating me to do the same.
I’m liking the idea of the Vitality and HealthyFood programs. Those are really nice ways to be rewarded for making healthy choices.
What a great event! I began running this year. a first i hated it, but the more i did it the better it was. I would love to participate in an event liek this!
What a wonderful event! It looks fun and exciting. I like the idea of food programs.
What a great event to take part in with your family!
I keep telling my daughter that I’ll start to jog with her and then another week or month goes by. 🙁 This looks like a great event.
That looks so much fun. I have not participated in any race, but this is something I would love to do even just for once.
I havent done a run or race since the Color Run 3 years ago. You look like you had fun and a great way to remind yourself to stay healthy.
Such an awesome event! Looks like you had so much fun! I never experienced to participate in any race but I would love to!
Nice opportunity to save $600 on food!
I think it is always a good thing to focus on health.
Such an inspiring post! That event looked like so much fun, I so want to run in race one day!
That looks like such a wonderful event. I’ve only participated in one race before. I normally participate in walks though.
I would love to go to this event. This is a great thing to do as a family.
I’ve never heard of this before! You’re right, it’s different and I love the concept!
What an awesome event. I love that they pair both food and the run together. Such a great idea!
I participated in a 5K about 3 years ago. I’d like to do more. I need more personal and physical challenges in my life.
What an awesome event! I have only ever done a 5K race before and I barely finished. Running is something I wish I could do more of.
This looks like such an amazing experience to be apart of! I’ve always wanted to join in on races but due to health have never been able to; I’ve been trying to condition myself by walking daily the last 2 months so I’m hoping 2017 will be my year!
I loooooove your post. I’ve been making some small changes for myself like cutting bread and adding a few more fruits and veggies, and it’s working!
It’s always nice to have fun when improving a small part of life. Eating healthy is easier to do when it pays off in fitness and energy.
Wow, what a lovely weekend! I want to go to an event like that, so much fun.
That event did have a unique twist to it. And I’m always so hungry after I run, so I think it would have been awesome.
Such a great post and reminder that small changes to your lifestyle can go a long way In helping you life more healthfully! I would love to attend an event like that-so inspiring!
I want to be heatlhy. I tend to take an all at once approach and I always fall flat on my face. I think following your small steps is the way to go.
I love events where food and fitness come together, they’re really nice. I’m glad you had a great time as well!
I am working on being healthier all around the board. Eating better, taking time for myself. working out. It’s so important.
I’ve lost about 25 pounds so far but I haven’t worked up the courage to try a race. It’s on my bucket list though.
