I can’t believe that June is already halfway over.

The girls are all finished with school and this is the first month in a long time we are not going to travel anywhere. Instead we are having some summer fun close to home while we catch up on everyday life! While we are home we’ve made a list of places that we love here locally, that we don’t normally get to go to, and we are planning to visit each one this month!

At the top if our list was the Oceanside Harbor.

It’s a really short drive from our house and there is a lot to do there. You can rent paddle boats, go fishing from the pier (or on a commercial boat), go for a walk, relax at the beach, enjoy the animals and my favorite… go kayaking!

cvs summer snacks

Early afternoon we headed down to the harbor, stopping first to pick up some snacks at CVS.

I knew that the girls and I would be doing a lot of walking so we would need some healthy fuel! Thankfully there is a CVS store on practically every few blocks and they make it easy to make healthier choices with their Gold Emblem Abound line of products!

Gold Emblem Abound was launched in June 2014 and this newer line offers customers a wide range of better-for-you snack and grocery items, such as Blueberry & Pomegranate Superfruit Snack Bars, Fruit & Nut Fiber Trail Mix, Organic Dried Cranberries, Heavenly Light Popcorn and Sea Salt Flavored Baked Rice Crisps. Each product is free of artificial flavors and preservatives and contains 0g trans fats. Additionally, the Gold Emblem Abound line includes products that are gluten free certified, sodium free, cholesterol free and contain sources of protein, fiber, omega-3s, probiotic cultures and potassium.

There are that are high in fiber and protein to gluten-free options, Gold Emblem Abound has something to fit everyone’s unique lifestyle. Each product is free from artificial preservatives and contains 0g trans-fat, so you can feel good about what you’re snacking on!

Even better, with 7,800 locations, you can conveniently grab Gold Emblem Abound and CVS/pharmacy Brand items at your neighborhoodCVS/pharmacy while you’re already there filling your prescriptions, picking up greeting cards or grabbing your favorite personal care items.

summer time fun

With snacks in hand we set off on our adventure.

We parked at the far end of the harbor, away from the beach area. There is always more parking there. We grabbed our snacks and loaded them into a backpack. The addition of a backpack has made traveling and adventures so much easier. We started our walk at the far end and walked all the way to the beach on the others side. There are benches sprinkled throughout the harbor so we stopped as we felt the need and snacked.

Aside from the relaxing waters and boat watching we also saw a bunch of different birds, fish, and sea lions. I think we could have all watched the sea lions for hours. They remind me so much of dogs with mermaid tails. <— I can’t believe I just admitted that! When they look at you there is so much depth there… just like dogs.

Oceanside Harbor makes a great afternoon or morning place to visit with kids.

If you are planning a visit to Oceanside Harbor during the summer get there early to get the best parking spaces. Especially on the weekend. There is overflow parking on the other side of the train track and I’ve always been able to find a spot somewhere but sometimes that means parking very far away. If they are having an event I’d delay my visit. Closer to the beach side there are restaurants for meals and a coffee shop that makes great iced tea. I drink mine unsweetened so the flavor of the tea is very important to me. Be sure to walk out onto the public dock to get even closer to the boaters and to see all the fishers and their catches.

What is your favorite half day local place to visit?
