Hi Coupon Friends!
I need you to use your imagination for this one… picture 4 acres {mostly on a hill side} covered in weed like growth from the rains a few months ago. It’s all dead now and a total fire hazard.
Imagine my husband spraying it all down with weed killer a few months ago {forgot that point}.
Now think of me getting quotes to have it weed whacked. Picture the look of shock and horror on my face when most people wanted over $1000 to cut it down, remembering that I wasn’t asking for it to be hauled away, just cut down… a job that would take one man less than 20 hours.
Now think of the look on my face when I finally got a quote for $200 and than think of how happy I was when it was done and completed in 2 days!
That was me yesterday.
It’s fire season so this was a huge item on my “to-do” list. And it’s done.
This is what I mean about “Full Price? NEVER!”. For me it’s all about stretching my money…
But it gets better!
I was talking with my mom yesterday about companies that are loosing business by trying to make a better profit margin at their loyal customers expense.
A perfect example would be Netflix and their 60% price increase. I don’t subscribe to Netflix { I use redbox with free codes if you were wondering}. But for many people right now this increase came at the wrong time and Netflix will loose their business.
Back to me. A few months ago I noticed that my gardener was getting a little funky with his billing. When I hired him I agreed to $250 a month. That is 12 payments of $250 a year. He normally gave me a bill at the beginning of the month. The bills started coming at different time of the month. It still worked out to me paying once a month, just at a different time of the month.
Finally he tried to give me 2 bills in one month. I sat down and balanced his bills. They made no sense. I asked him for an explanation and he told me that I owe him an extra $250. What? He said that he realized a few months ago that he was under billing me and that he started a new billing schedule to “help” both of us. He said that a month that he quoted me 2+ years ago had 4 Thursdays, but that some months had 5 Thursdays so he started charging me by the week {$62.50} there for I owed him for 4 extra Thursdays. I reasoned that I agreed to give him a $250 check at the beginning of every month… not to pay him weekly.
He said that it was a new thing a few months ago and that he’s sorry he forgot to tell me… but that he wants the money. I will be paying him the amount he feels he earned. It’s not worth it to me to fight this one out.
However, he just lost a long time customer over this.
Thankfully I asked the guy that did my weed whacking how much he would charge… he said $200 a month {a $50 savings} and we verified it didn’t matter how many Thursdays are in the month! Guess who just got a new gardener?
I love saving money!

  1. Nice!! Win-win for everyone… except the guy who tried to pull a fast one. No no NO.

  2. Full Price? NEVER! says:

    Lianne… I love it… NO NO NO!

    How have you been?

  3. Hanging in there and not shopping much – thanks for asking! :) Subject to change at any moment, as usual.

Hope to have some news in the next couple of days. Even if only to get the hubby to stop freaking out about the arrangement. He's afraid the guy will change his mind. I don't think that will happen. The guy is moving, allergies are a concern, and someone needs a home…
