Being as productive as possible is a huge deal for me. Like many women, I’m a mom first, but I also have a job outside the home. To be my best in both of these areas I need to get a good night sleep. For a couple years now I’ve had a hard time staying asleep. I’m normally tired enough to fall asleep, but I inevitably wake up before it’s morning and I have a hard time falling back to sleep.

On those nights I spend the next day in a fog! I think it’s time to stop faking it. I’m not getting enough sleep every night like I need to and I think my mattress is to blame. My poor mattress has lost its spunk and I blame all the sleepless nights I’ve spent on the fact that it’s getting older and it needs to be replaced. If you look at the picture below you will also notice that it dips a bit in the center. Another reason it’s time to get a new one.

With so many choices I was curious about other options and how to buy a mattress that will help me get the rest I really need. Aside from the new mattress, I was interested in other ways to get a good nights rest. I like that there is a guide for how to get better sleep that has some great recommendations!

May is better sleep month with the Better Sleep Council and Memorial Day is a great time to go buy a new mattress. I’ve already purchased a fluffy mattress cover and it’s helped me get more sleep than I used to, but I think it’s time to get a new mattress just because of the age of my current mattress and because decent sleep isn’t enough. I want the best sleep I can get and a new mattress that is the perfect soft/firm combo that I love would really help!

  • My mattress is lumpy. A new mattress would help me get comfortable and sleep through the night.

  • Thanks for the great info, Heather! A comfortable mattress is critical to a good night’s sleep – and a good night’s sleep is critical to good health and well-being.

  • It’s amazing how a mattress can make or break how you feel. We got a new mattress about 3 years ago and I slept like a baby for the first year, lol. If they weren’t so expensive I’d replace them more often!

  • My 15 yr old mattress has springs coming thru both sides (so flipping isn’t an option anymore) and my mattress topper has been chew food for our pit…I am truly looking for the best nights sleep ever…it’s been so long…ugh!

  • I hardly ever hit REM sleep due to pain conditions and scoliosis, so a good mattress would be a HUGE help to my sleep! We just moved and don’t have a mattress just yet.

  • My daughter spent the night with her grandparents for the first time in a few weeks and it was heaven getting a full nights sleep!

  • A good mattress makes a big difference on how easily I fall asleep. My current mattress isn’t great, but we have a nice mattress topper that helps.

  • my sleeping troubles involve my hubby’s snoring. I’m a light sleeper so he is constantly waking me up and then I end up on the couch trying to sleep. haha

  • I have not replaced my mattress in many years. There are so many types of mattresses on the market that it makes choosing the right one difficult. I know I would stop tossing and turning all night with a new comfortable mattress.

  • I have a new baby so I’m a few times a night for feedings. I need to be able to get back to sleep quickly and sleep soundly. Our mattress has seen better days – a new mattress would really help the sleep I am getting to be good sleep!

  • I am in that group of people that needs a new mattress. This post was helpful.

  • i’ve come to despise our mattress. and that’s WITH a good topper on it. it’s just a junk mattress and needs replacing

  • Uh, a two month old? And two older kids who like to climb into bed with us in the night. We need a bigger bed! 🙂

  • I sometimes have trouble sleeping due to back pain and our old mattress makes the problem worse. I could use some nice mattress.

  • I toss and turn all night long from back/hip aches, I’ve even tried the pillow between the legs and doesn’t help lol totally putting a fund together to save up for a new mattress!

  • My husband tosses and turns all night because our mattress tends to aggravate his back…and all his moving around keeps me up too. I’d love to get a new mattress.

  • My back hurts when I wake up in the morning, plus my husband is all over the bed, lol. I’d love to upgrade to a new bigger mattress, lol.

  • I have problems sleeping because of back pain..a new mattress would help.

  • I have scoliosis which causes a lot of back pain daily in my lower back as well as the middle/center where your spine is and also between my shoulders where your neck meets your back – it’s awful. This is why I rarely sleep on my back. I am always forced to sleep on my side or my stomach because my mattress is just not cushioned enough for my back – it’s painful and uncomfortable. I really do need a new mattress, one that is very soft and has a lot of cushion.

  • My mattress is pretty old – at least 10 years (closer to 15) and definitely leaves a lot to be desired. On one side I can actually feel the springs in my back so a new mattress would definitely aid with better sleep and overall better health.

  • My mattress is a little bit old and needs more cushion, this sometimes causes me discomfort when I sleep, I really believe that with a new mattress I would sleep better.

  • My mattress is very lumpy and uneven and not very comfortable. I get up usually at least once during the night and I think a newer, better mattress would result in an overall better sleep experience.

  • My mattress is very old and quite hard with a dip in the middle despite regular flipping. Thanks to Lupus, Fibro, joint issues, etc. it is impossible for me to get comfy enough to go to sleep. I use a lot of pillows to try and prop myself, but I think a new foam or gel top mattress is the real answer!

  • A new mattress would ensure a good nights sleep without constantly waking up due to my side aching from sleeping on it so long on my lumpy mattress

  • A new mattress would help back problems so I would feel rested in the morning. Thanks for the opportunity.

  • A new mattress would be so wonderful! My mattress is older and the springs are coming thru in spots. I have a pad on top that does help, but I have such back pains in the morning. I feel like I never get a good night sleep. A new mattress would be a blessing!

  • My problem is falling asleep – an uncomfortable mattress is 100% responsible. After tossing and turning for an hour or two, I finally doze off but never feel rested.

  • I frequently wake up with a backache after having spent a night on my mattress because it is lumpy.

  • My husband gets up numerous times every night (and wakes me up often doing so) and constantly complains about needing a new mattress because it’s not cushioned enough and very uneven. Our mattress is easily over 15 years old and a new mattress would let him (and me) get a better sleep!

  • A new mattress would be a big help in letting be feel more comfortable when I go to sleep. I toss and turn a lot trying to get comfortable on my mattress.

  • We both wake up with painful backs, and feeling incredibly tired because our 2 year old mattress is already breaking down on the sides. It has what I like to call my dip that has very noticeable springs digging into the surface all down the left side. My son just spent a year in and out of the hospital, and we’re financially unable to get our mattress replaced. This would be a complete godsend. Thank you so much for this opportunity.
