The mantra for spring busy, busy, busy… regardless if I like it or not! There has been little time for taking care of me. Between working around the clock and taking care of sick kids I myself became a little run down. I felt like I was getting more tired by the day.

Something that I’ve been wondering about for a long time was if I was getting enough protein in my diet and what amount of calories I should be eating every day. I know that diet is important to feel your best and I decided to do something about it!

I know that there is no way that I’d be able to take a trip to see the doctor or nutritionist to get answers to my questions, so I was thrilled to learn about American Well! American Well is extremely convenient… who has time to bundle up the kids and get over to the doctor only to sit and wait in an overcrowded, germ-filled waiting room? Not me! With American Well, you can see a pediatrician from your living room with your daughter still in her pajamas. Plus, your prescription is ready in minutes at the pharmacy of your choice. <— I will totally be using that in the future!

And since they are available 24/7, 365 days a year their doctors are available to you on your smartphone, tablet or computer. No more 2 AM symptom checker binges. With their free app, you can always have a doctor in your pocket.

Dedicated face time with a doctor where you can get all of your questions answered with no interruptions is pretty awesome, right?

It’s quick and easy and it’s all on your time! Since I was meeting with a nutritionist I wasn’t sure how it would work… Pretty much I signed up for an account. That took all of 2 minutes. I then was immediately shown who was available online to speak with me. There were at least 10 doctors and 2 nutritionists immediately available. I noticed that had there been a wait {average of 10 minutes}and  that I could have them text me when they were available. That way if I had a sick child I could tend to them during this time.

A couple of seconds later I was connected to Margaret Apura, Nutritionist. She took a thorough health history and we talked about what my current eating was like and how busy I am. She was looking at the big picture to really understand where I was coming from. It was really nice to actually be able to see her face and talk to her… much like if I was actually in her office. After our appointment, she messaged me with notes that said my calorie intake recommendations and a meal plan to help me accomplish my goals.

American Well is Safe and secure. They are HIPAA-compliant which means all of your health information will always be safe and available only to you and your doctor.  You also don’t need to feel like you’re cheating on your doctor: all physician notes from your visit can be shared with your primary care physician, your pediatrician, or any specialist. In addition, many insurers are beginning to cover these telehealth visits for the same or lesser co-pay than a traditional in-person visit.

  • What a great idea this is. I could sit in the comfort of my own home and talk to my Doctor. I like that they are they HIPAA-compliant which means all of your health information will always be safe and available only to you and your doctor.

  • This is a great way to get my husband to “go to the doctor” or ask a question. It’s like pilling a cat getting him to the office!

  • I spend so much time on Google when one of us are having symptoms. This would be a much more convenient, time-saving method for gaining advice from the doctor.

  • Good info to have. Between the three f us, I always have medical questions. And it is always nice to know that privacy is a concern on their end and mine.

  • I have been seeing this lately and I think it is a very interesting concept. I will look more into this

  • I like the idea behind this, and if my insurance starts covering it, then I will definitely put it to use. Otherwise I’ll have to wait and see what happens. For me, with 8 kids at home, the cost of American Health is just too much.

  • I feel like I have a lot of times in which I would like to just ask the doctor a quick question, but don’t because I don’t want the hassle of making an appointment for something that’s probably trivial.

  • I can think of many times when this would come in handy. When the doctor’s booked or closed, a virtual doctor would be awesome. I will have to look into it.

  • This is an excellent resource and a great service. I cannot stand going to the doctor’s office when I just have a small question to ask. It’s such a waste of time and energy!

  • This is a really great service. I always put myself last when going to the doctor so I’m glad to see this resource.

  • I’m not exactly sure how I’d use the free visit. This sounds like a great resource!

  • What a terrific resource! This seems like it might be more affordable for people that don’t have insurance and just want to know something.

  • This would be so helpful when traveling and for middle of the night emergencies. I’m so glad to learn of it.

  • I love this idea. It’s so convenient. No excuse to not take care of ourselves!

  • This is great I need something like this. It would help with always running to the doctors and schlepping my boys all over

  • This looks like a great app. It would definitely come in handy with things that come up for my daughter.

  • I love the idea of being able to use the internet to schedule your doctor’s visits! Thanks for sharing!

  • I’ve been hearing more and more about American Well. I think it’s pretty awesome that you can actually see a doctor from your home. That is so convenient!

  • This sounds so useful! I hate having to drive over to visit a doctor – and wait, and wait, and wait! I’ll give this service a try!

  • This is such a great idea. I don’t why they didn’t think of this sooner! A mommy blessing

  • This sounds like a really great resource for folks who either don’t like visiting the doctor, or don’t have the time. I like that you talk to a doctor live and that they’ll share the info with your regular doctor!

  • I love this idea!! It’s great for busy parents and also for those times where you aren’t sure if you need to go to the hospital for after your dr’s hours or if it can wait until the morning!

  • I recently tried out American Well myself, and I can say I will definitely be back. It’s so much easier to hop online and chat with the Doctor about issues, instead of waiting in a busy (germy) doctor’s office for hours upon hours!

  • Love this idea, no more going to were all the germs or at or being sick and having to get out of bed to go see the doctor.

  • This seems like such a great idea. I am going to try it (there are six of us in the house, someone will get sick soon lol).

  • I also don’t have any nutritionist in my area so i was excited to utelize this service. I can’t wait to meet up with my nutritionist agian in a few months.

  • I love to know that they’re available 365 24/7! This makes those inconvenient moments (like getting sick on Christmas or Thanksgiving) a lot less stressful, knowing I can hop online and get help from my couch!

  • Great tips and information. I don’t have a lot of time to go to the Doc being a busy Mom. I’ve never heard of this type of system but I will check it out.

  • I would love to try this out considering I don’t have to leave home and wait for hours in a waiting room!
