It is officially Fall!!! I just love Fall and I’m so happy to share this post made in collaboration with Michelle for 5 Fun & Easy Pumpkin Projects!
One way to know for sure Fall is here is the presence of pumpkin EVERYTHING everywhere! From pumpkin lattes to pumpkin decor…. I would dare conclude that the big orange round pumpkin is the official symbol of the season.
To celebrate Fall and the pumpkin I wanted to share Five Fun and Easy creative projects with pumpkins that you can do to enhance your fall decor in your home.
1. Modpodge Fabric Pumpkin
The first pumpkin project is a Modpodge Fabric Pumpkin.
Heres what you will need:
- Fabric
- Modpodge
- Foam Brush
- Scissors
- Pumpkin (I used a styrofoam pumpkin)
I really enjoyed doing this craft because it was simple and the final product looked amazing. I love how you can choose any fabric color or pattern to compliment your home, and that is not your typical orange pumpkin, it is unique.
For this project I used a craft pumpkin, but you can use a real one. Once you have your materials, simply cut your fabric into strips. Cutting fabric in a straight line is difficult, luckily for this project you need not worry about this! Just cut away. After cutting your fabric, with your foam brush, coat the back of the strips of material with modpodge and affix to the pumpkin, smoothing any wrinkles or bumps out with your fingers. Repeat this all the way around the pumpkin overlapping strips.
Finally, layer a good coat of mod podge over the fabric to seal it. Yes, it will look white and gluey, BUT remember IT DRIES CLEAR.
Simple, huh? Experiment with different fabrics and sized pumpkins. Have fun and display them all around your house.
2. Pumpkin Vase
Now on to our next pumpkin project the Pumpkin Vase.
How simple can you get? A vase made out of a pumpkin!
Again you can use a craft or real pumpkin and real or faux flowers. I used a real pumpkin for this.
Here’s what you will need:
- Pumpkin
- Knife or Carving tool
- Flowers
- Grocery Bag
- Decor items
Cut the top off your pumpkin and get your hands dirty and scoop the insides out clean.
Next, place a grocery bag inside the pumpkin to line it.
Place your flowers inside. Leave the pumpkin as is or if you are feeling creative decorate it. I used some washi tape to add vertical lines to my pumpkin.
Here’s another look at my vase with faux flowers.
3. Pumpkin Candle Holders
Ready for more pumpkin fun? I thought so! Our next project is oh so EASY, but will really give your home a “Fall” feel. Let’s make some Pumpkin Candle Holders.
For this project you will need:
- Mini Pumpkins
- Knife or Carving tool
- Tea light candles
- Decor items
I got excited when I went to my local orchard and saw the variety of mini pumpkins available. Beyond your traditional orange, there were white, green, orange and white speckled, and even gray ones. Get ahold of some unique mini pumpkins and make these simple candle holders. Simply cut the tops off and scoop out the insides.
Insert a tea light candle, decorate if you desire and you are DONE! I used the flameless candles for mine, but feel free to use real candles. This can be completed in a matter of minutes so go and make some and display on your mantle now!
4. Personalized Pumpkin
I just love personalized items in my home. Why not make the pumpkin sitting on your porch personal? Add your monogram, your last name, or your house number with this Personalized Pumpkin.
This is what you will need:
- Pumpkin
- Acrylic Paint
- Stencil
- Foam Brush
I used a white pumpkin for this project in order for the paint to stand out more. I also used a fluorescent glow in the dark orange to make it a little more festive. Again, this project is super simple, even more, simple if you have adhesive stencils. These stencils are great, just stick your stencils where you want them and paint away. Just be sure to remove the stencil before it dries, VERY CAREFULLY.
5. Chalkboard Pumpkin
Ready for one more pumpkin project you can get done quickly? Of course, you are! The next pumpkin project is a Chalkboard Pumpkin. I love chalkboard paint and the fact that you can use it to make ANYTHING a chalkboard, even a pumpkin. For this project, I used a craft pumpkin.
Here’s what you need:
- Pumpkin
- Chalkboard Paint
- Foam Brush
- Chalk
Give your pumpkin two coats of chalkboard paint, letting it dry between coats for about an hour.
When dry, get creative, write a welcome message, a fall saying, or your dinner menu to be displayed to those in your home.
Now get your creative pumpkin projects out and display them proudly and welcome this wonderful time of year–Fall!
