How to Dry Fruit aka. The Perfect Sweet Snack

DriedFruits1

Ever want to learn to dry your own fruit? Mary shows us how! Right now, there are so many delicious fruits available and many are going on sale for super cheap! If you're like me, you like to stock up on them when they are on sale. If you're tired of eating them fresh or making jams and jellies, I have the perfect solution for you! Use your oven to dry them and have them on hand for healthy snacks. When dried correctly, the fruit will keep in an air tight container for one month, or you can freeze it and it will keep for up to six months! I started with 1 apple, 1 pineapple, 1 banana and 10 strawberries. Ingredients: Choose your families favorite fruits, or those that are in season. I've chosen strawberries, pineapple, apples and bananas. Fresh squeezed lemon juice (to prevent browning) Directions: (1) Wash fruit and remove any stickers that may be on them. (2) Set oven to 200 degrees or lowest setting. (3) Decide whether you want the skin on or off. Peel … [Read more...]

How To Make The Most Amazing Strawberry Milk Shake!

bestmilkshake

Milkshakes! Rich and cool ice cream! Do you know how to make the best one you will ever have? You are about to learn... I thought this was the perfect post for today. At 8:30am it was already in the 80's. I am loving this warm weather. I know it's not going to be here for long, but I am ready for summer and this is the ultimate treat! Milkshakes. They are they’re own kind of amazing. There are times when nothing meets the craving of a milkshake. Not regular ice cream or cocoa. It has to be a milkshake. Milkshakes have been around since the 1880’s. At that time however, milkshakes were an alcoholic whiskey drink that has been described as a "sturdy, healthful eggnog type of drink, with eggs and whiskey". I definitely prefer the modern day version packed with ice cream syrups and in short, more sugar than the human body can handle! Did you know that during his youth, former President Harry S Truman worked in an ice cream and soda shop as a teen? This is a kind of treat I … [Read more...]

“There are no words”, Cookie Brownies.

fpn_IMG_3706

Layers of brownie, white chocolate, dark chocolate, butterscotch chips and chocolate chip cookie. It doesn't get any better than this, it really doesn't. The flavors melt together to create something out of this world. You can eat them layer by layer or just take a huge bite and get all the flavors at once. I recommend a small mug of coffee or a tall glass of milk to wash it all down. Trust me, these are richer than Bill Gates, you will thank me later. These fall into a special category of desserts that are not cookies, but they are not cake either. Can't call them brownies. Bars are slightly accurate, but still not right. These are hard to describe. Sometimes you make something and it tastes so good that there are no words to describe it. Doesn't happen often, but when it does all you can do is keep eating. It's nice to also share with your friends and family, but I totally understand if you keep these all for yourself. I named them "There are no words, cookie brownies" because … [Read more...]

Skinny Mexican Pizza! A healthy take on an old fast food favorite! Meatless and Fresh!

fpn_IMG_3597

Skinny Mexican Pizza! It's true. This is a calorie lightened version of the old fast food version. And it's a true vegetarian delight! There is no meat on it, but it still has that heartiness that everyone craves. The secret is the use of re fried and smashed kidney beans. After having these beans you will never want to go back to boring re fried pinto beans. Seriously this is so easy to throw together and has some of the best flavors ever. The first trick is to use extra sharp cheddar cheese. That way you can use less cheese but still get a whole lot of flavor. Ingredients: flour tortillas tomato kidney beans garlic, I use the frozen pureed cubes but you can use any form. lettuce extra sharp cheddar cheese There are only a couple steps. Making the beans, the tortilla "pizza" shells and assembling them. The beans are really easy to make. Spray a frying pan with non stick spray and empty a can of kidney beans liquid and all {do not drain them} into … [Read more...]

French Bread Grilled Cheese with Caramelized Onions and Sharp Cheddar Cheese

fpn_IMG_3520

French Bread Grilled Cheese with Caramelized Onions and Sharp Cheddar Cheese Do you remember a little while back when grilled cheese was all I could think about? Melty cheese on fresh french bread. It sounded so good, but it felt like something was missing. It only took me a second to realize it was caramelized onions. Yes, caramelized onions would make it perfect... and it did! Another one of my non-recipe recipes. Got that? It's so easy you don't really need a recipe to make it. Just throw this on this and add this and you are done, kinda recipe. Ingredient list: butter 1 large onion french bread sharp cheddar cheese I started with my homemade 30 minute french bread. Slice it into sandwich sized loafs and set it aside. Slice a large onion into big rings. Add butter to a frying pan and melt it. Add onions to the butter and caramelize them over medium heat. Cook them till they are translucent and golden brown on the edges. They will be buttery … [Read more...]

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Swirl Bundt Cake

fpn_IMG_3538

This is the easiest peanut butter and chocolate bundt cake you will ever make. It tastes like you spent hours making it too. Like all peanut butter recipes I make this one was for my sweet and awesome husband. He's the coolest guy around and he loves peanut butter and chocolate. It's his favorite dessert combo for sure! I like to make him happy but I'm also a total cheat when I do it. I made this cake a couple months ago and I didn't post it right away because I planned on remaking it and taking more pictures to share with you. I've actually made it again since then, but it was eaten too quick to get pictures. This is so easy to make that it's perfect for a busy weeknight. The only problem when I made it on one of my busy weeknights is that was too dark for pictures. I thought that Id just take some picture of the leftovers the next day when the lighting was better... too bad there were no leftovers! How to make the Bundt Cake: Grab your favorite cake mix or homemade … [Read more...]

Mexican Style Stuffed Avocado with Salsa and Black Beans

fpn_IMG_3417

I love avocados and I love them even more when they are stuffed with yummy salsa and black beans and covered with melty cheese! It's Cinco de Mayo time around here so I'm sharing some of my favorite Mexican foods! I still can't get enough avocados and that might be because I have like 10,000 of them growing on my trees. It might also be because I just love them! They taste like butter to me. The girls like to sprinkle some sea salt and pepper on them and eat them with a spoon straight out of their natural "shell" and I don't blame them! I feel like there should be some sort of recipe to make this, but like all of my recipes there isn't really. There are general ideas of mine  that can lead you, but you can turn this into anything you want. Love peppers? Add them! Hate tomato's? Ditch them! Here is what I did.... I took a few avocados and cut them in half. Carefully remove the seed. You don't have to be careful if you don't want to... but I don't want you to get hurt so … [Read more...]
