Thank you McDonald’s for inviting us to see the new Build Your Burger at your San Diego location and for sponsoring this post.
This week Pete and I took a little trip down to San Diego Midway area to see McDonald’s Build Your Burger for ourselves.
We had heard all about it online and the pictures looked amazing. I thought it was a really cool concept and I wanted to see if it lived up to everything I heard about it.
If this is your first time learning about McDonald’s Build Your Burger here is what it’s all about.
Build Your Burger is putting the burger of their dreams right at customers’ fingertips through an interactive kiosk in restaurant lobbies. Build Your Burger offers a variety of toppings, sauces and buns, including new items such as guacamole and tortilla strips. The custom burger creations are grilled fresh to order and delivered to the customer’s table for a unique dining experience. Build Your Burger is available at a handful of select Southern California locations for in-store customers.
We were welcomed to the restaurant by a table of fresh produce that they use on their Build A Burgers.
Te tomatoes are sliced fresh daily and the burgers have large leaf lettuce. There are two buns to choose from and they are not your typical fast food buns. They are both so good!
Then it was time to Build (Y)our Burger.
We were escorted to the touch screen kiosks and picked all of our toppings and bun. I got everything that was offered on mine including guacamole, 2 different cheeses, grilled and raw onions and more. Pete’s was a little simpler but it still had lot’s of yummy toppings. You can even get bacon and an extra patty if you like.
See how easy this was:

The tomato was so fresh and the mushrooms were my favorite!
These were so good and I want more people to experience them so I’m giving away 5 $25 McDonald’s Arch Cards! Winners will be chosen at random after this closes on October 21st 2014 at 11:59pm.

This is super cool, sadly I hadn’t heard of it up until now. I think your burger looks delicious!
I love that option! I hope it comes to Vegas!
It’s good to know that McDonald’s has fresh foods in their restaurants. The onions, mushrooms and tomatoes look super fresh. I’m glad to see healthy foods there now.
What an amazing concept for McDonald’s to have a ‘build your own burger”. My ideal hamburger would have a sesame seed bun, fresh iceberg lettuce, a slice of tomato, cheddar cheese (not fake) and a slight hint of good ketchup. I do like a strip or two of bacon now and then, but it’s not necessary. Thanks for letting me know about this idea. I hope it gets to the Reno NV area.
My perfect burger includes bacon, cheese, habenaro sauce, mayonnaise, beef, tomatoes, lettuce,
Oh that looks so delicious. I love guacamole on a burger. Hope it makes it way across the US.
I’ll have to pay this place a visit. I’m always up for a delicious burger, especially one I can create myself.
Such a cool experience, I would love to build my own burger!
This is SUCH a cool concept! I’m kind of jealous this isn’t available on the East coast. The set up they put together for this feature doesn’t even look like the typical McDonald’s! Your burgers look delicious!
They haven’t opened these in Austin yet, what a great concept.
We saw a similar version by the other place (BK) in Orlando. I really liked the concept and getting food fresh. My son would love to visit because we’d all be able to get something we wanted.
I think this is a real step-up for McDonald’s. I hope it catches on all across the US.
That is NOT a McDonald’s burger… you are kidding me. I hope they bring this concept to Canada really soon.
I love that McDonalds is offering more veggies now! I would have a burger with tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, and cheese – yum!
The perfect burger for me contains fresh ingredients, with lots of lettuce and tomatoes (no onions). A little bit of ketchup and some light mayo, plus American cheese too. 😀
Whoa that burger looks so amazing, I want one right now! Great pics 🙂
Love the idea of building your own burger. Those did not look like something from a fast food restaurant, especially adding guacamole and tortilla strips.

It sure does look better than standard drive-thru fare.
Now I want one near me 🙂
Oh how neat! I haven’t heard of this at all! My burger would be great with mushrooms and swiss! 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
What an interesting concept for McDonalds! I would like to try that, mushrooms are a MUST!
DUDE! This sounds amazing. I love McDonald’s burgers and I was so sad a while ago when they discontinued the Jalapeno McChicken. Sounds like I could recreate it now! Mmm, Jalapenos and extra onions…
This is a pretty cool idea, I’ve worked at a place that was made to order burgers, it has it’s up and downs.
McDonals here in our country is different. WE don’t have those toppings and other viands present in our burger. This one is a great idea for those who likes to make their burger healthier.
