Pete’s Grandma taught him so much growing up and she continues to teach all of us and her great grand children many valuable life lessons. I’m so happy to share these 6 Bits Of Wisdom From Great Grandma. Last week we returned from a quick visit to Pennsylvania and to see Great Grandma.

We were only there for 5 days, but we packed in as much time as we could with Grandma. Sitting there with her we all soaked up so many life lessons from her. I don’t think she even realized that she was passing so much wisdom onto us.

I realized as we were sitting with her, how much of an impact the strong and wise women in my life (like Grandma) have had in empowering me to be an Unstoppable Mom, significant other, daughter, sister, coworker, friend and more.

Here are 6 Bits Of Wisdom I’ve Learned From Great Grandma…

1. Cherish your family and friends that are like family. Grandma has a huge heart for those she loves. Even after losing the love of her life 7 years ago, it hasn’t made her bitter. She still puts others ahead of herself and that makes her happy. Her happiness comes from knowing that she is making others happy. On the days that I struggle to get it all done and doubt my abilities, thinking back to this makes me realize I’m on the right path and that those I care about most are happy.

2. Believe in true love and let your heart lead you. I don’t think Grandma had any idea when she spoke of Grandpa that it touched us all so much. She wasn’t afraid to share the type of love that she and Grandpa have. Even though he has passed away, they still have so much love between them.

3. You don’t have all the time in the world. Grandma shared that she and Grandpa really thought they had all the time in the world before he passed away. I don’t think there were any unsaid words between them, in fact I don’t think they even needed to say words because their love was so strong… but it is a good lesson about living for today because there could be no tomorrow. I take for granted my relationship with Pete and I needed a reminder that we need to put just as much time in our relationship as we do the other aspects of our life. Plus Pete and his grandpa look so much alike that it was shocking for me to see the pictures so this really hit home.

4. No matter what other job I have in this world, it will never be as important as being a mom (and hopefully a grandma myself someday). Sometimes putting motherhood first isn’t as supported as it once was, but it should be. We are given the gift of motherhood and we need to value it and cherish our children and childhoods.

5. I set the example for my kids. How I act and react is how they will learn to behave. If I’m thankful they will be too. If I’m stressed and anxious, they will be too. Great Grandma set a high standard in motherhood and for being a strong woman. She took care of their family business and 22 acre property sometimes without any help when Grandpa was traveling for work. Not an easy job for anyone, but she handled it with grace and determination.

6. Be strong. It’s not just a saying, it’s actions we take every single day of our lives, During the good times and the hard times. Through all of life’s ups and downs, Grandma kept her chin held high. When Grandpa passed she kept on going and found the good in each and every day.
