Daily Money Saving Tidbit: Secret Weapon Edition

I have a secret to share. I know you all know that I love coupons. You know I love a good deal. I think you also know that I love nice things. I just don't have a lot of time to deal hunt these nice things. Here's my secret weapon for finding good deals. I let others find the deals for me. Blogs are great for finding deals. Follow the right blogs and the deals are delivered to you. I go beyond this. I let Slickdeals find me the deals I'm specifically looking for.Slickdeals has something called "deal alerts" that you can set up for anything. A few months ago we had one of our TV's start to slowly die. It was a long good bye but it gave us time to search for a new one without running out and just buying one. I set up a deal alert for "plasma tv" and another one for "lcd tv" and then whenever someone posted a good deal on one of these I got an instant email. Because of slickdeals I was able to get a Toshiba LCD 42 in for $499 shipped to our door. The normal cost of this tv is over $900 and … [Read more...]

Cat Story: Need I say more?

{another old blog repost} This is one of my favorite cat stories.Today I worked from home! A real *treat* for me. My constant companion "Tempo" the black and white mutt cat was not a good coworker.Mid morning I was craving "Kraft" Mac n' cheese. Before we debate if mac n cheese is even a real food product... it was raining, I was hungry and it sounded really good!So I prepared the powdery goodness and placed it on the kitchen table. I then went and got my laptop, remember I WAS working! As I made my way back to the kitchen I heard slopping coming from the kitchen. I rounded the corner and witnessed a massacre of my comfort food by a feline. To add insult to injury when I shrieked with horror he raised his normally pristine white face to reveal a ring of bright orange cheese sauce hanging from his face and whiskers.I had to eat a "fake meat" sandwich for lunch since there was no more mac n cheese. I was not happy. After settling back into my computer work my back started to ache. I … [Read more...]

How does your garden grow?

Back in 2009 I had a really random blog that talked about deals and coupons but mostly random things I think about. I also had a really great garden going. I dreamed of acres of pumpkins and we were on track to have a huge harvest... and than I got sick and they didn't get watered and well we had an ity bity harvest. Here is the post I made on July 9th 2009 before the drought.I just started planning this years garden so I was looking for inspiration. Are you guys doing a garden this year? Please share. I'd love to hear your plans!{Here's a blast from the past!}Living on 4+ Acres I have some room to roam!We currently have 300 avocado trees- however due to water restrictions they will be stumped soon.We have around 100 grapes. There are 4 varieties of wine grapes. I did not plant these. I would have planted the eating variety... heck, I don't even drink wine... but some days I think I should start! I have an upper garden that is by the pool. It has 3 strawberry plants, 5 tomato plants, … [Read more...]

Wednesday Night Extreme Couponing: Boring

Gosh guys, I can't believe I watched this junk again. The two people profiled appeared a bit more normal than the others, but the mis-use of coupons continued. The first lady bought a bunch of purex and used the very loved {now expired} $3 Purex 3in1 sheets or Purex with Zout. Correct me if I'm wrong, but she did not buy either of those, did she?Secondly, did you see how both of them were beyond excited to "clear the shelf". Oh my, they should know better. I have no problem if there are only a few on the shelf and you take what's left, but to take 100's at a time and leave nothing, embarrassing! My favorite part was when the first lady explained where her coupons all came from, all 5000 inserts came from GOD. Yes, GOD supplied them all. I want to know exactly how he supplied them. Did he actually deliver them? Did he "lead" her to them abandoned in a back alley? Please. This show is really getting to me. My friends at the drug stores are all asking me if I'm like the tv people... do I have … [Read more...]

I wish I had each of your phone numbers…

So I could call you all and tell you this story. We have the cold/flu at our house again. It's made it's rounds and my middle daughter {who has asthma and is heavily medicated} has been hit the hardest. She's been a real trouper. It really sucks when she gets sick and she doesn't complain. She has the sweetest personality. All she wants to do is help and take care of us. One day in the very, very, very distant future {read not till she's at least 30} she'll be an awesome mom. So when this happened earlier today I knew she was really sick and I immediately called the Dr {don't worry this is a funny story, no kids where harmed}. I was changing the babies diaper while sickie was in my bed. Sickie whispered to me. In the sweetest voice she asked me to come closer. Sickie then asks if she can tell me something. She has the sweetest eyes and the most delicate voice. I think for sure she's about to thank me for all of my great mothering and I just know I'll be getting a huge verbal … [Read more...]

Extreme Couponing The Wrap Party!

Guys, Readers, Coupon Friends, {all of you}... I just settled in, I've got "Without a Trace" going on the TV. I'm finally ready to talk about Extreme Couponing. But where do I start? I was excited to watch it. I won't lie and say I wasn't. I love coupons. I love TV. TV + Coupons is a simple pleasure to me. I was expecting fake "reality" TV and that's pretty much what I got. What I did not want to see and saw anyways was bad coupon use. You know when you see someone post a really awesome shopping trip and you want to duplicate it because it was just shear genius? I didn't see any of that. What I saw was craziness. I think it was really strange that one lady called her kids her "litter", but that was the least of what bothered me. I totally get stockpiling. I'm a "prepper" at heart, but having more product than people to use it before it expires and not donating it is maddness. Like I've said before these shows just make us couponers look like crazies. Remember when I posted the new 4 … [Read more...]

It’s exteme couponing time!

Are you guys ready? Are your DVR's set? Did you pop all of your free popcorn? It's EXTREME COUPING TIME! Are you having free soup for dinner and lighting your house with free light bulbs while watching Extreme Couponing on TLC tonight? I'm in. I'll be watching this while reminding myself that just like all "reality" shows, there is very little reality in the way these shopping trips are filmed. I consider myself a BIG couponer, but I would never be able to go into one store and buy, let alone find 1000 boxes of cereal. There is no way a grocery store would welcome a customer that tied up one cashier for 4 hours. Just not a reality. But don't fret~ you can still get loads of free stuff and save tons off your grocery bill with coupons. I'll leave you all with this for today. I {heart} coupons! Do you? … [Read more...]
