Daily Money Saving Tidbit: Clothing Edition

I like nice clothes. I can't help it. I don't like really, really, really nice clothes {well I do, but I can't bring myself to buy it} but Ann Taylor Loft, Nordstrom Rack and Banana Republic make my heart smile. What's a girl to do?Use coupons and shop sales. Period.Case in point. My sweet husband {he would die if he saw I called him that} needed a couple new suits. He liked this one at Banana Republic. The jacket is $355 and the pants $150, making theentire suit $505. Way more than my financially careful husband would spend. For his birthday I bought him a gift card to Banana Republic. We decided to stop in and look at the suits at the BR Factory Store. It took all of 5 minutes to see the sign that made me happy. It read "2 piece suit for $125". I could not find any difference between the $505 suit at the BR store and the $125 one at the Factory store. The math looked something like this. Regular price $1010 for 2 suits at BR. We paid $250 for the same 2 suits! That's a saving of $760 and … [Read more...]

Daily Money Saving Tidbit: It’s COOL to be a saver!

{Sorry for the week long absence. I'm STILL fighting a cold. I'll do a whole recap of my week later, it was a bit interesting. Till then I leave you with this}Remember when coupon users felt like they had to hide their coupons?I remember in the 80’s coupon users were seen as either desperate for money or cheapskates. Those that used coupons where ridiculed at checkout and faced certain embarrassment.Even when I was at my peak for coupon clipping in the early 2000’s {yes, I don't feel like I'm back at my peak yet} I still didn’t advertise my obsession. It’s not that I was embarrassed, I was actually proud! But it just seemed that someone would complain about not having any money and then I would mention using coupons, they would seem interested and then I would invest countless hours teaching them only to get the some old comments about not having time to use coupons, or being brand loyal, or that they just could never remember to bring coupons.I definitely understand all the … [Read more...]

Hi Coupon Friends,Well I fought it, dodged it, thought I had tricked it into leaving me alone, but it was not to be. Don't you just hate being sick? Don't you just hate seeing your little ones sick even more? Me too!I got in a bunch of trips that I didn't post but I am going to try to get them up asap.Ps. Daily Money Saving Tidbit: Walgreen’s Cheat Sheet

Walgreen’s is an easy place to get free items. There are some tricks of the trade that you will want to know to maximize your buying power. I have them all listed below.Where do you start? On your first trip to Walgreen’s you’ll have to spend a little money. The first purchase you make you will pay with a coupon and cash or both. As long as you are buying an item that produces a register reward you will then get one after you pay. Say you are buying shampoo that is free after register reward for $3. You pay with a $1 coupon and and $2 in cash plus tax. After you pay you get a $3 register reward. You just made $1. Now you can use that $3 register reward to buy another item (just not the shampoo again).Where to check out- if possible, I always pay in the beauty department. I have become friendly with the BA’s (beauty assistants) and they often have extra coupons or product samples. It’s a lot easier to do multiple transactions as this area is not as busy.Rain Checks: Walgreens … [Read more...]

Cheap Huggies Diapers Coming Soon!

I went to check the mail today. It was a boring mail day except for 2 things. #1. New home mailer from Huggies. Inside were a few coupons for diapers and wipes, but even better was an announcement that they are redesigning their packaging look. Every time Huggies redesigns their packaging it means clearanced diapers! I often get packs of diapers marked down to $2.25 and than I use a coupon, maybe even a $2 coupon making each pack $.25! I'll keep you all posted once I start to see them actual mark these all down... hopefully it starts at Rite Aid so I can use +Up's too!2. This little magazine was also sitting in my mail box. Most of my mail goes to a PO box but this was in my home mail box. Even better, it had my DH's full name on it. Last time I checked we were married a decade ago so I don't think he's planning a wedding. He's sleeping right now {home sick with the flu}, but when he wakes up I'll be sure to ask him about it. I just hope that if he is getting married again that he … [Read more...]

Money Saving Tidbit: Daily Saving/Spending Edition

I came across this article on Yahoo Finance. I thought it was the same old watch your daily spending because it ads up, kinda article, and I was right... except I really liked the examples she used. She assumes you could invest the money at an 8% return. I'm not guilty of any of these on a daily bases but I do have other guilty spending habits that ad up. I love to get manicures and pedicures but due to time {lack of it} I am lucky to go once a month, let alone once a week. You can read the whole article below.6 Little Things That Cost a Lotby: Kathy KristofExpense Today Over 10 years Over 30 yearsPizza delivery {$25 a week} $18,661 $158,731Coffee/donut {$4 a day} $22,389 $190,453Smoking {$35 a week} $26,125 $222,223Manicure {$40 a week} $29,857 $253,969Lunch at work {$10 a day*} $37,322 $317,462 (*work days only)Golf {$75 a week} $55,983 $634,924Seeing it like this, does it make you rethink your spending?
