10 Things I Do As A Mom That I Said I Never Would Do

Things I do as a mom that I said I never would do

1. Character shoes. I swore I wouldn’t let my kids wear annoying light up character shoes and the second my daughter wanted some I was there buying them.

2. Leave The House Without Makeup. I just knew that I would always have time or make time to be perfectly presentable at every moment. Who knew that sometimes there just wouldn’t be time.

3. Wear Yoga pants to the store. I swore I would never be so lazy to wear my yoga pants on errands. I don’t view it as lazy now, it is comfy and smart

4. Allow my kids to eat junk food. I vowed that my kids would eat perfectly healthy at every moment. But I realized that a cupcake is not going to kill them.

5. Allow my children to watch TV before 2 years old I just knew that if I let my kids watch TV before they were 2 their brains would turn to mush and I would be a horrible mom. A few episode of Disney Junior actually helped them learn to count and allowed me to crash on the couch for a minute.

6. Let my kids behave that way in public. Of course, I swore my kids would be perfectly behaved at all times when we were in public. And then, my bubble burst. I’m careful to always move them away from other people, but still!

7. Allow my house to look like THAT. There was no way I would ever let my house be overtaken by toys, laundry, and little shoes thrown everywhere. And now I realize that life happens and a clean house is not always the priority.

8. Use my moms words on my own kids.  I hated the phrases my mom used on me. Now some days I open my mouth and my mom comes out.

9. Bribe my kids with a treat or toy. I knew my kids would always listen right away without any negotiation, but I have become the Ultimate Negotiator.

10. Talk about my kids as much as I do. When I was child-less I swore I wouldn’t talk non stop about my kids… but once I saw them I was in love… and couldn’t stop talking about them!

What do you do as a mom that you said you wouldn’t?

  • I am with you on all counts. I am the queen of bribery because honestly, it’s just easier than the fight sometimes.

  • I guess I had a pretty level headed approach to parenting. Kids have their owns plans, do as much as you can to keep them on course.

  • I said my kids would never run around and be obnoxious in public. And then I had 3 boys… Oh well…. LOL

  • Looks like you have listed them all. I can’t believe how much I go back on my words!

  • Haha, this is awesome and so true! Growing up, there were SO many things that I swore I would never let my child do…and yet, I now allow anything for peace!

  • I totally said I’d never bribe my kids. My 3 1/2 year old, however, knows exactly how to negotiate these days so I have no choice sometimes! 🙂

  • The Ultimate Negotiator. HA! This whole list. My daughter said something about wanting to be grown and I told her to pay a bill. I have finally morphed into my mom.

  • I think my list is pretty much the same as yours! There are days that I let my daughter go out in pajamas because I can’t stand the toddler tantrums. I never thought I would do that!

  • Yep, your list about covers it. I am guilty on all accounts. Funny how our opinions change once we become parents. Guess that just means that we’re normal.

  • I nodded my head and said yes to every single one on your list. The worst is saying things my mom said to me. I’m sure my kids feel the same way about it like I did at their age!

  • Love this and I can totally relate with so many of them! Hey..I want a pair of those light up shoes for myself. Is that wrong? LOL!

  • I think we have all done a few of the things on your list. I started a FFY night at my home. FFY stands for Fend For Yourself for dinner. (My kids are older 12 and 17. Lol). FFY night was meant to be one night a week, it’s more like three nights a week now 🙂

  • I will never, ever, forget the first time I heard my Mom’s voice come out of my mouth. I was shocked!

  • Oh the character shoes and bribery. I have a secret stash of M&M’s and Dum Dum suckers for just the bribery moment.

  • hahahahahaha

i was NEVER going to cloth diaper. at one point i had 3 in cloth at once.

i was NEVER going to spank. we have had to (not many times, but we have)

i giggle at i nevers now.

  • Guilty as charged. My son watches cartoons and he is not even two yet. Sorry not sorry!

  • My DIL has a baby about to turn one…a little sweet, fat, beautiful baby girl. She’s full of the ‘no junk,’ ‘no messes ever’ ideal still, and I laughed when she sent me a picture of the little one eating dirt while gardening (her mom took the picture). There’s junk and a mess all with one fell swoop, hahahhaa. Not like she meant it, but still and the same and it makes me laugh. 🙂

  • So funny! I do all of these things as well. We can’t be perfect. They wouldn’t love us as much if we were.

  • Before you have kids you have no idea what you will do. Someone said to me my child’s toys will never be in the living room. Yeah, she ate those words. LOL

  • Own it, girlfriend. It’s time we stop judging and start living. Everything I said I wouldn’t do went out the door when I realized how short life is.

  • Yep, yep, and yep. I am so guilty of doing all that too! Mine was never introducing them to McDonalds. Pft. I think fry fry was my daughter’s first words.
